Looking for some guidance.

Looking for some guidance.
What is the amount of time between exposure and first very painful outbreak? Is it measured in hours, days, weeks?
What amount of time from exposure before an 2IgM positive is measurable?
What amount of time from exposure before a 2IgG positive is measurable?

Results say
HSV, IgM I/II Combination 1.17
HSV I/II IgG Rflx I-II Type Sp 48.1 (high right)
HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec Ab 4.53
HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec Ab <0.91
What does this indicate?

Thanks

I'm so sorry to be a little late answering you.  We are camping in Alaska and Canada for two months and I'm grabbing internet access when we can.

The time from first infection to severe outbreak is normally 2-14 days, IF you are going to get a severe first outbreak.

The IgM test is notoriously inaccurate.  I would pay no attention to it whatsoever.  It has many false positives and is simply never to be used for diagnosing HSV in adults.  I'm sorry that this very low positive IgM has you worried.  The IgG test is the one you want to pay attention to.  It becomes positive 10 days to 4 months from infection, with the average being 3 weeks.  By 6 weeks from infection, 70% of people that are going to be positive will be positive by type specific IgG.

Hope that helps you sort things out in terms of your own timing.

Dear Terri
Thank you very much and I hope Alaska was nice and I love Canada especially camping.  That's helpful and looking for a couple clarifications if possible.

For the person I love.....
So IF there is a severe and painful outbreak it IS from a recent exposure in the past 2-14 days?  It would be a past exposure that suddenly becomes a severe out break?
If there is also a severe and painful outbreak and a +ve hsv 2IgM 7 days later it is most likely an accurate test? And Acyclovir was taken and it worked quickly.
Test showed hsv2IgG -ve
but a specific hsv2IgM 1.38 +ve

For me.....
3 days later I had very mild symptoms and the test gave the results I first posted above.  I have never had symptoms before and the hsv 2IgG -ve and no recent encounters with anyone else (for more than a year).

Want to move on forgive and forget and live with it, but make sure the truth is clear.

Thanks so much

If someone has a severe outbreak, they should get it swab tested to sort out what it is.   By severe, for me, that means multiple painful blisters, difficulty urinating, etc. The IgM just is so useless, I can't say how to mix that in with the symptoms.  If that person is truly negative by IgG and they have not had another partner recently (so that they could be having new infection), then they couldn't pass it to you.  The key here might be knowing about recently the other person had another sexual partner.  If it is more than 4 months ago, I would ignore the IgM result and move on.

I have an irritated penis head for about 7 months now. I went to the doctor. And they tested me for all the stds. I didn't have any of them. Liittle white spots have shown up on the penis head. They have been there for months now haven't gotten any bigger. Or smaller. There is redness around the tip of penis and it will not go away! My penis is constantly sore. Sometimes it worse than other times. My testicles are also sore from time to time. Does anyone know what this could be?

Maybe the white spots are just this and not connected to the redness...
