Looking for some help

Hi there.
About 4 or 5 weeks ago, I noticed some small white bumps around the base of the shaft of my penis, but didn't think much of it.  It didn't go away so after about 1.5 weeks, I went to an urgent care clinic.  The Dr. there had a look and asked if I'd ever had cold sores.  I havent, but he didn't say anything more than that and never mentioned Herpes.  He did no tests (blood or swab) and sprayed the lesions with liquid nitrogen.  After another 2 weeks, I hadn't really noticed an improvement.  On Monday of this week, I went to my GP who visually diagnosed them as Herpes, saying it was HSVII.  Obviously I've been pretty distraught since then.  He prescribed Valtrex pills 3 times daily as well as Zovirax topical cream which he said to apply 5 times daily and my pharmacist said 3 - 4 (ive used it maybe 4 times in two days).  My questions revolve around the lesions.  I have not noticed any blistering of my skin (at least I don't think so - and I would assume I would notice ??), and nothing like the "paper cuts" that I read seem to be pretty common/characteristic of herpetic lesions, although admittedly there has been some intermittent itching in the area.
My doctor took blood tests as well as swabs for a battery of diseases, including Herpes, which I am awaiting results on.  My question is regarding my "lesions".  They have persisted mostly now for almost 6 weeks.  They have not been painful, I haven't really noticed any tingling, no pain during urination, and as I mentioned, no blistering but some itchiness.  The other thing I noticed is that they seem to be worse at different times in the day.  When I wake up in the morning, and for the better part of the morning and mid-afternoon, they seem to be much less severe.  The bumps are smaller and it appears that there is fewer of them (although they may actually just be smaller and not quite as visible to the naked eye).  However, in the late afternoon and evening, they seem to be worse.  There are more visible bumps and it happened to be at this time of the day that I saw my GP when he diagnosed me.  Is something like this common or a characteristic of herpes lesions?
Also I was wondering how long it should take for the Acyclovir to start showing its effects.  I have taken 5 pills so far, and although I dont expect them to be gone already, and I also know that everyone reacts differently to medication, but I am just curious as to what is an average timeline for the effectiveness of the meds.

Any help you can provide, I would really appreciate.
Thanks

nope, no harm with taking valtrex without having herpes.  you'll just pee it out :)

like I said, this isn't herpes going on.  sounds like your regular provider had no idea and just threw 1 of everything almost at you :(

Thanks for the post

I am still distruaght my doctor's diagnosis.  I live in Canada and it can be difficult to get a timely appointment with a dermatologist.  Also I have looked on the dermatology forum here, but it appears that you cannot post anymore on there as there are no Dr.'s responding to comments.

I have continued to take the Valtrex pills 3 times daily as a precaution before I hear back from my tests and my doctor.  Can these drugs have any adverse effects on me?  I have a medical background and I understand how antivirals work, so I am fairly confident that I shouldn't see any major side effects, but some reassurance in this regard would be nice.

I have continued to monitor the bumps.  They appear to localize around the base of my penis, where pubic hair normally grows.  I do regularily shave this area, though I have not done so since my "outbreak" has happened.  Could these bumps be realted to shaving?

I appreciate any help you provide.  Reading these posts have really helped me since the idea of having herpes first popped into my mind.  Thanks for the answers.

these are not herpes going on. herpes wouldn't stick around without changing this long.

liquid nitrogen is a treatment for molluscum and warts, not herpes.

at this point see a dermatologist.
