Misdiagnosed with Herpes Zoster for HSV-2

I went to the doctor becuase I had a group of small blisters that itched by my stomach. I had the exact same thing happen to me about 3 months earlier but on my right shoulder, and about 6 months before that I also had it on my thumb but I didn't worry about it as i thought it could've just been an insect bite but once I saw the same thing appear I thought I'd go to the Doctor. The doctor saw it and immidiately diagnosed me with Herpes Zoster/Shingles. That SAME DAY I went in, I asked to get tested for HSV1/HSV2 just for a check up. I have never EVER had any symptoms of these STDs, NOTHING ever appear on my genitals exept for on my thumb, arm and stomach area.

I got the test results 4 days later and came out negative for HSV1 but positve for HSV2. I am in shock!!! My questions is since I got blood taken out the day I had Herpes Zoster still active in my body (not dormant since it was recent on my skin) could it be possible I just have Herpes Zoster since it's still in the same family of viruses?

I stress out a lot because of my job but everytime I have stressed a lot I got the herpes zoster on my body but never an HSV-2 breakout like I have been all about.

Please help I want to know if this could actually be a possibility of definitely not.

Thanks!

Hi, I have the exact same thing.  I got genital herpes, was diagnosed with it, and then over the years I have had outbreaks on different parts of my body.  I've had it on my wrist, arm, hand, knee, calfs, buttocks, and of course the genital area.

I was not told it was zoster, but that it was hsv-2.  I have tried to find more information about this because it seems to be an uncommon occurrence.  It drives me crazy not knowing where it will show up next.  And I hate having to bandage it up so much because it just takes longer to heal, and itches like mad, but I don't want anyone else to come in contact with it.

a visual diagnosis of zoster isn't adequate.

zoster also doesn't reoccur on this many body parts and this frequently. If you get any of these rashes again outside of the boxer short area as we call it, definitely follow up on them with a dermatologist for a better diagnosis.

do you know what your hsv2 igg results were specifically? ie hsv2 igg 8.2 or whatever they were?
