Mono or Herpes? Confused!

Hello, I am new here to the board, so thanks for helping me out.

I have had a bad sore throat for almost 3 weeks now. i was given an antibiolitic from my doctor which did not help. my throat is red, raw, and burns when i swallow. I have read the herpes outbreaks can happen IN the mouth, but i have never had any sores inside or outside. Just this bad sore throat. I have also been tired too. Does a herpes outbreak in the throat happen and stay this long? I have also read that mono can give you a bad sore throat for weeks too.

Thank you for helping.

Thank you for your help. But I do not know what ENT is? Is there a directions you can point me at that will lead me to research as to why my throat is sore. It is better than in the beginning, but just not going away fast. Does a sore throat caused from a virus normally take this long to go away? This is not unusual?

If you've had a sore throat for 3 weeks now, it's time to return to your doctor for a further work up. Discuss with them if they think a referral to ENT is in order too.

Your provider saw your initial symptoms and didn't think it was due to herpes. No reason to suspect otherwise.

That is a helpful post. Thank you. Can you please help me answer my question though? Does a herpes of the throat last for more than 3 weeks, or does this look like i should get a blood test done for mono?

Does anyone know anything about throat herpes? Thank you for helping.
