. I've never had any sores or any visible outbreaks in my genital or mouth areas.
What I'm wondering is if the monospot test I was administered could have returned positive for another herpes virus like HSV 2 and if I should be concerned.
My symptoms that initially led be to the doctor were:
-mild fever
Based on these symptoms he determined I likely had mononucleosis. But I'd also been recently sexually active. I'd been using a condom but I recently found out those aren't entirely effective in preventing herpes transmission.
Is there any reason to suspect that the monospot test would have returned a positive for an infection other than mononucleosis that I should be concerned about?
a monospot only looks for mono, it doesn't test for herpes.
if you want to know what your herpes status is, you need to be specifically tested for it. You can get a type specific herpes igg blood test done to know your status.
