This forum is an un-mediated, patient-to-patient forum for questions and support regarding herpes issues such as: Herpes symptoms and treatments, causes, diagnosis, and herpes in men, tests, telling your spouse or partner.
ocular herpes comes from hsv1 which in this case mostly came from some type of oral contact or contact with saliva. She wouldnt have hsv2 just b/c she has ocular herpes, If she does have hsv2 it would most likely b from sexual contact oral or genital. the only sure way to find out if she os infected with hsv2 is by getting tested. hope this helped.
It's best if you BOTH go and get type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what. You can't really assess your risk until you both know your full herpes status. don't forget about getting tested for other std's too.
As msmj said - occular herpes is almost always hsv1. It typically is also oral too. Statistically 1 out of every 2-3 adults in the US has hsv1 orally. it's incredibly common and most folks who have it don't get obvious cold sores to know it so testing is a good idea.
