My friend has Ocular herpes?

by Global777, Mar 20, 2009 04:31AM
I recently met this girl, and shortly after meeting she discovered she had Ocular Herpes. We haven't had any sexual contact, yet, it seems as though that is where we are heading though. So, inlight of her recent discovery I would like to find out a few things about Ocular Herpes. I have googled herpes, and Ocular herpes, but still I don't really know much. Please help.

Does having Ocular herpes mean that she has genital herpes?

Can I contract Herpes in any form from her eye?

what else should I know about Ocular herpes?

thanks

ocular herpes comes from hsv1 which in this case mostly came from some type of oral contact or contact with saliva. She wouldnt have hsv2 just b/c she has ocular herpes, If she does have hsv2 it would most likely b from sexual contact oral or genital. the only sure way to find out if she os infected with hsv2 is by getting tested. hope this helped.

It's best if you BOTH go and get type specific herpes igg blood tests to see who has what. You can't really assess your risk until you both know your full herpes status. don't forget about getting tested for other std's too.

As msmj said - occular herpes is almost always hsv1. It typically is also oral too.  Statistically 1 out of every 2-3 adults in the US has hsv1 orally. it's incredibly common and most folks who have it don't get obvious cold sores to know it so testing is a good idea.
