I had an IgM test 3 weeks post exposure and the results were .91. The Nurse told me I had a 50/50 chance that I was exposed to Herpes. She told me to wait one month and test again. I waited until this week (almost 4 months post exposure) and got tested again.
This time my IgM was 1.11 and my IgG was negative. The Dr told me I was probably recently infected within the last 3 months.
I have had some signs and symptoms I think. When I first went to the DR I had three small bumps on the shaft of my penis
) they itched for a couple of days. They never broke open or blistered. I had no pain. Actually, there was really nothing to them other than the itch. One of them scaled (maybe scabbed) and then they were gone. About two weeks.
Over the course of the last 3 months since that episode, I have felt strange things happening. Tingling, and some sharp pain. I am not sure if this is in my head
the igm herpes test is a very flawed test and we never recommend its use.
the best thing to do at this point is to wait at least 3 months after the last time you had sex to repeat your herpes igg blood testing. should you get a recurrence of symptoms, be seen within 48 hours of its appearance for a lesion culture and typing.
My GF of 6 yrs has never had a cold sore that I can remember. Could she have transmitted this to me by viral shedding? We have been faithful all this time. I dont understand. I am very scared I have this.
The last time we had oral sex was the second week of September. I showed signs shortly after.
TEST
October 2: IgM .91 IgG Negative
December 27: IgM 1.11 IgG Negative
Please help me. I feel I have had two outbreaks since this time, and we have not had sex since Sept. I am afraid of this, and more afraid of telling her. She might think I cheated when I did not.
the igm being positive is absolutely meaningless. It has a high false positive rate which is part of why we don't recommend its use. Your provider should update their herpes testing knowledge by reading the 2010 cdc std guidelines under the herpes section so that they stop causing their patients undue stress like is occurring with you at this point.
really nothing else you can do other than be seen every time you have genital symptoms. If they suspect it's herpes, they need to do a lesion culture and typing on it but odds are this isn't herpes going on.
