5 months ago. Before this encounter I had been in a monogamous relationship for 7 years. About 3 weeks to 1 month after the encounter I noticed a blister or cyst (didn't get a good look) on my inner labia. It popped on it's own- yellowish clear pus came out, and it healed in 3 days without crusting. It wasn't painful
hair.. Of course I checked on the area quite a bit over the next couple of days in case anything else developed. Nothing visible, but I started having intense burning pain, redness, and itching
area within a day or two after it popped. I thought maybe I had irritated the area by checking on it constantly- but the burning seemed to be inside too like the cervix was irritated. I could barely sleep one night because it was so painful. It lasted for a week. I got into the doctor as soon as I could and told them my concerns. They did not see anything and said the herpes blood tests were inaccurate, and that it probably wasn't herpes because it was too long (1 month) after the time I thought I could have been exposed. They tested me for every other std- hiv, chlamydia, syphillis (syphilis), gonorrhea, etc. as well as a urine test for uti and also for yeast infection. Everything came back negative, and they told me to stop worrying unless symptoms returned.
I went back to the doctor 2 weeks after my first visit (so 6 weeks after possible exposure) and asked for the herpes blood test. It came back negative also.
For the next 3 months I had intermittent periods of burning, itching, tingling, etc. that would come and go. No visible sores. Then 2 weeks ago I started having what felt like a uti at first. Severe burning and pain when urinating and urgency. The pain was very bad when standing and seemed to be within the urethra. When I sat down it was not as painful. I also had itching on the outer labia and vaginal opening. At the same time I developed a head cold so my immune system was definitely down. The doctor tested me again for uti- it was negative- and gave me pills for yeast infection even though he did not do an exam at all or test for it. The pills did not help.
I went back to the doctor 2 days later - got a new doc- and told him about my herpes concerns and recurrent symptoms. He did an exam and told me he saw a genital wart at first- but then he said no, it wasn't a genital wart, but he thought he saw tiny herpes vesicles. I had examined the area that morning and I didn't see any blisters but I guess they could have been that small. Anyway, he told me he was pretty sure I have herpes, prescribed valtrex- which I didn't fill- and took a viral swab, which came back negative.
A day after I got the negative result 2 red painful bumps started to form on my inner labia in 2 separate places. One looked like it was filled with pus and going to pop so I went back to the doc- got a different doc again. She told me it looked like a cyst, not herpes, and was nothing to worry about. She did not seem concerned that the last doctor did a visual diagnosis of herpes. I asked her to do a swab anyway, she popped the cyst with a needle and only swabbed some blood from it. I also had the herpes blood test taken again and I am waiting for results on both. One bump went down on its own and the one she popped did not turn into an ulcer, it looks like it is almost healed 2 days later. The burning, pain and itching, and uti feeling is gone finally after 2.5 weeks of severe discomfort.
I am going insane. I have one doctor telling me I have herpes just by looking and another telling me she doesn't think I have it. I am starting to question myself. Like maybe I have caused the pain and irritation by checking on the area too much or maybe my symptoms are not an std, or even crazier, psychosomatic.
I don't have the results on the second round of tests yet. My question is: If both are negative, would it be irresponsible to let it go? Is it possible the doctor was overzealous in his visual diagnosis? Or if the viral swab is negative, but the blood is positive, should I trust the results, or retest again? I have heard that blood tests can be inaccurate. I don't have all of the info about the test- only that it is type specific igg/igm.
The person I had oral sex with says he has never had any cold sores but I have seen a couple of things near his lip that really looked like cold sores to me. He made an appt to go get a blood test since he isn't having any visible symptoms right now.
Am I going about this the right way, or only setting up the situation to be more confusing by relying on blood tests? Nee
have they been testing your vaginal secretions for yeast and bacterial infections at all? I know you said the one doc just visually said yeast and prescribed treatment which didn't help but has anyone looked for bv or even suggested culturing you for bacteria at the site of the symptoms?
