Need help with test results. Can i contract hsv1 if i have hsv2?

If i've been positive for hsv2 can i contract hsv1 as well? I've had hsv2 for 9 years now. My partner was diagnosed thru a blood test and it looks like hes positive for hsv 1. His test came back type 1 igg 11.50 positive. hsv 2 igg 0.05 negative. What does that mean.?

have you ever had a herpes igg blood test to see if you also have hsv1 or not?

hsv2 seems to protect against contracting hsv1 but not vice versa. your partner's hsv1 infection isn't a big risk for you.

do you and your partner take precautions to protect him from your hsv2?

I only have HSV 2. I dont know what type of hsv 1 he has though. Since it's thru a blood test it can be hsv 1 gential (genital)? So how does that work? Can someone get hsv 2 if they have hsv 1 genital?

yes you can still get hsv2 genitally if you have hsv1 genitally.

so you had a type specific herpes igg blood test done when you were diagnosed as having hsv2?

odds are your partners hsv1 is oral if he can't recall ever having had symptoms either orally or genitally. did you ask him if he recalls ever having cold sores ever?
