like symptoms to go with it. I went to the doctor the next day to get tested for herpes but he was diagnosed me with a yeast infection. I still insisted on the blood test. A couple of days after that I had another blister come up in a new spot
. The herpes results came in and they were IGG negative IGM positive. My doctor called me to let me know I had herpes and that he would call me later to let me know which kind. When I recieved the next phone call from him he told me no herpes and that when he divided the HSV1 and HSV2 there were not enough in either one to be positive and the reason it showed up as positive was because they were combined. Please help me understand this.
sounds like so far you've had flawed testing all around :(
the herpes igm test is a greatly flawed test and you can't be diagnosed as having herpes from a + igm.
combined hsv igg tests are also completely useless. No idea what your provider meant by his dividing the results . I have a feeling your provider is fairly clueless about herpes testing :(
Yes I am in the US. The test that was combined was the IGM and I don't know if I am explaining this correctly. He said that my results for the IGM HSV1 were below normal and the results for IGM HSV2 were also below normal, but combined they made the IGM positive. Seeing as how I had a blister back in September, would you think the IGG would have came back positive? I am extremely confused with these results and I plan on going back in 3 months, but just hope to find more info until then.
yes , if you had contracted herpes back in september, it would've been positive by now.
completely ignore the igm results in general and encourage your provider to review the 2010 cdc herpes testing guidelines to update his information about testing for herpes.
at this point, should you get a return of symptoms, be seen again as soon as you can. if they suspect herpes, insist on a herpes lesion culture, not additional blood testing. Also make sure they are looking for other causes since with negative igg testing, it's not likely it's herpes.
