Neuralgia with HSV

I'm pretty sure I'm having neuralgia with HSV.  My buttocks area has burned now for 3 months.  I've tried every other remedy to cure it.--fungal and bacterial prescriptions.  It hurts more when I sit down and goes away when I'm on my feet for a while.  Has anyone else experienced this?  How long can I expect it to last?  The pain is annoying, not excruciating...maybe a 2 or 3 out of 10.

And sorry if I'm discounting your experience by recommending aspirin! You obviously have tried a lot more than that. I just mentioned that because it worked for me, and might help others.

Neuralgia can be a very hard pain to treat with pain-killers. Some doctors say it's the hardest pain to treat.

I'm curious if you also noticed the neuralgia at exactly the same time as your first HSV outbreak/infection. If it is something that came up later for you.

Constant HSV-related neuralgia is supposed to be "very rare". But anecdotally, it doesn't seem to be as rare as doctors insist. Aspirin probably helps with discomfort, and time should also reduce symptoms. 2 years is still a fairly "recent" infection, and you might be surprised to find that if it's HSV-related neuralgia, it suddenly goes away.

Of course, definitively associating neuralgia with HSV is not easy. I know it's possible, because I experienced the same thing: shooting pains every day all day for about a year. After a year it went away. But it was 100% correlated with the primary HSV infection. It never existed before HSV, and it commended and persisted immediately following the primary HSV infection. So in my mind, there is no doubt. You can sometimes argue with doctors until you're blue in the face though. They'll still tell you it's "extremely rare". That can be frustrating.

Have you seen a neurologist yet? If not, that's your next step.

The vast majority of people do not experience anything like this with a newly acquired genital herpes infection.  You need a complete work up to rule out other causes at this point too.
