Not sure if a cold sore..

Hello MedHelp, I'd just like to ask a question.

Lately I've been having really bad anxiety attacks due to worrying too much about someone I'm about to date..

Last week, (Thursday) we met and hang out like we usually do, and while we were eating I noticed something weird about her lip. I noticed that a part of her lower lip was red and possibly a bit swollen. I'm not sure if it was just ketchup since we were eating fries, but either way I'm getting really paranoid about it.

Here's the catch. We met 4 days later again, (Monday) and I checked her lip to see if the bump was still there. Nope, it was gone. Not even a trace of a scab or anything like that. All I saw was a spot that was a little darker than usual (like there's a really really small blood clot, now I'm not sure if that has been there for ages, since I only checked it then. It might actually just be a normal discoloration since we all get that, and I might have noticed it now only since I'm getting really anxious).

Another thing, We have talked about herpes before, and asked her if she had them before and she said no. She actually found the symptoms very disgusting, and I trust her with this since she is a really nice person. I feel really ashamed because of my overthinking and doubt.

Please help me, what are the chances that it was not a cold sore and just an irritation? I figured if it was a cold sore, it would be either in the prodome or "early" stage since it was just red. If this was the case, then when we met again (Monday) it should be a blister already, or even an ulcer. If it was in the healing stage, then I should've noticed the actual cold sore before because we also met before she had that red bump.

I can't ask her about this because it be very rude, and besides she told me she never really had cold sores, and like I mentioned before she doesn't even know what cold sores were.

Please help me, I'm getting really paranoid about this.. Thanks medhelp!

if this is someone you want to be involved with, why not suggest you both seek out type specific herpes igg blood testing to see who has what?  blood testing is far more accurate for assessing risk than just asking about symptoms. most people who have oral herpes and/or genital herpes, aren't aware of their infections.

are you seeing a professional for your anxiety?
