Oral Herpes Transmission to Vagina

Thanks ahead of time for your answer!

Here is a timeline and description of events:

My boyfriend showed me a spot on the corner of his lip where they meet. It looked like the corner had a cut (split open). Below his lip he had red bumps. He told me that a zit occurred and he had picked at it. The other corner of his lip has some dry skin/irritation though not as noticeable as the other side.

Sunday Oct 23 (a week after he showed me) - He fingered me and used his saliva for lubrication (at one point he used the tip of his tongue (lips/skin did not touch). Of course I was sore for a day or so later due to roughness.

Wednesday Oct 26 - Throat became scratchy and phlegmy.

By Friday and Saturday I had started coughing along with a raspy voice and itchy ears. Took allergy medicine and it seemed to help out. However the cough is bad at night.  I have also had right jaw pain (not sure if this is from stress or TMJ)

Not knowing if his irritation was herpes or not (he thought it was from drinking nothing but sweet tea lately and being dehydrated) should I be concerned of contracting it on my genitals? I have not had any discomfort or pain vaginally (I have check internally too with my fingers)

Also, what also concerns me is that he started taking L-Lysine because his cuts/scrapes/bug bites heal slowly. Do people take this for this purpose?

I would believe the negative test results and move on.

The only other thing I can think of are the seam of my jeans being too tight against me and rubbing into the lips inside.

Yes, I was tested 3 months after from a previous encounter and was negative for both types. 10 days after the first painless cuts/fissures appeared (they disappeared the first time in three days)...I have gotten more in the same spot (like the first time, I noticed they bled a little) Again, completely painless and are almost gone 24 hours later. However, I do not remember scratching myself at all this time. Would the initial herpes outbreak be painless and resolve in three days. Would an HSV-1 reoccurrence happen again 10 days later? (I hear reoccurances are not common that soon)...I am not sure if this is due to poor hygiene/vaginal dryness, or, like you said not an HSV-1 infection...Thank you for your support and patience.

I still don't think you would have contracted herpes in this way.  Have you ever been tested for herpes prior to this?  have you had sexual partners prior to this?  If you've never been tested for herpes, perhaps getting a type specific antibody test would help ease your mind.  If you've never had any kind of sexual contact other than this one that you describe, I wouldn't bother.

Hi Terri:

Thank you for taking the time to answer. I thought everything was going good until now after the episode posted above. 20 days after the fingering with saliva mentioned in the posts above, something strange happened. I constantly check everywhere down there. I had gone clothes shopping and tried on a pair of leggings (no panties on) I had just got my nails done the day before. I remember scratching myself down there through the thin leggings. I had not washed in a few days so I was itchy and dry. When I got home I noticed a little spot almost at the top of the inside of my vagina where the main two lips meet. I took a closer look at it and there were three cuts next to each other that were completely painless. I didn't even know they were there until I just happened to look. They were completely gone and healed over in 3 days. I've heard that herpes can resemble cuts also. If herpes, would it be gone in three days? I'm just confused as to how my nails through my leggings could have caused something so similar. Thanks for any input.

This isn't how this board works actually.  You have to post your own post, not tack on to someone else's.  Hard to say about if you got herpes, but the blood tests shouldn't take much longer, in fact, you should have them by now.

Hello. Thank you in advance for answering my post. I dated someone for over two years who has herpes. She never specifIed HSV-1 or 2, but said she had had genital lesions years ago, so I'm assuming 2. We were long distance and had sex infrequently. We had unprotected sex one time and it was anal. We would occasionally go down on each other and do manual stuff where fluids got on each other. I've suddenly started worrying that I contracted herpes. It's been months since we broke up and I have no symptoms. Never had any while dating either and she never seemed to have any while we were dating. I took tests for HSV-1 and 2, but the results won't be back until Monday. I'm freaking out because my results for all other STDs came back (negative), but this is taking longer (though it's still within the timeframe they said it would take). I've read online that "many" people don't have symptoms upon contraction. But do most have symptoms? And what is the likelihood of me getting herpes from going down on her? I'm paranoid. Thank you again.

I think your risk of acquiring herpes from him in the way is extremely low.  I don't think we can say for certain that there is zero risk, but in my opinion, it is very close to zero.

No, I have never had a cold sore. I am HSV-1 negative. I have not had any sores externally. Just a vaginal itch here and there that I'm not sure is me repeatedly touching causing dryness, anxiety, or hair growing back from shaving and pressing against labias and vaginal opening, and me checking internally. Would I have felt pain somewhere internally from checking?

Just not sure what my real risk was here. I've seen in some posts that Doctors have answered that saliva wouldn't cause transmission.

Sorry to be so late in answering.  I am in Mexico, and have very sketchy internet access, despite promises to the contrary prior to departure.

His corner of mouth lesions could be herpes or could be something else entirely, it is very hard to say in that location.  You've had no genital symptoms like sores, right?  You had some tenderness due to roughness, but that's really very different.  Nothing about your upper respiratory symptoms sound worrisome to me for herpes, no, nothing.

I think you would have experienced sores by now if you were going to acquire genital herpes from his mouth/saliva.

Have you ever had a cold sore on your lip?

Sorry again. Just remembering thing as they come. He also has kissed me and sucked on my breast and lightly pecked other parts of my body. Would I have definitely seen sores somewhere on my body including vaginally by a week later?

Also, all I have is the cough an phlegm buildup...no runny or stuffy nose or anything which also confuses me.
