Oral Herpes?

Hello Doc,

Three days ago I performed oral sex on a woman, and the next morning I began feeling numbness/tingling in my lower lip.  The numbness has persisted and a small reddish/purple mark has appeared on the inside left corner of my lip.  The inside of my lower lip has slightly swelled, and it appears that a blister may be beginning to form on the inside of my lip by the purple/reddish mark.  Is there anything else this could be?  Could this be an allergic reaction of some sort?  Is there a high probability that this is herpes?

Thanks,
I-man27

Yeast in the mouth normally show up on the tongue, but I suppose it can show up in other places, I suppose.  Only a clinician could sort this out with lab tests.

Thanks for the initial comments.  I went to a clinic today, and they gave me anti-allergin medication called Xyzal, and they told me that at this point i shouldn't be overly concerned.  However, upon reading further, could candida be a culprit?  I have not developed any blisters, but i do have a white streak running on the inside of my cheek (both sides) from my back molars to the corner of my lips.  My lips are slightly swelled on the inside.  So far it is entirely painless.  I did do the "home test" of saliva, and I do see many strands that run from the surface of the water to the bottom of the cup.

Thanks again,

I can't remember ever getting a cold sore.  If a blister does develop, is this a herpes verification?  Could it be anything else?  If this is herpes, will this spread to my genitals?  The contact was only oral.  How long would the blisters remain?  How long would it take them to form?

Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip?  If yes, then if you do have oral herpes, this is not new.  And you would not contract again what you already have.

I've never seen herpes start with a reddish purple mark, actually.  What you want to observe for are water blisters, if they come, you will notice.  And if they do come, I would suggest that you get a swab done of them blisters.  If you don't get them or have had a history of cold sores, I would not worry about this exposure.
