Oral coldsores transferring to genital herpes

I have had frequent coldsores since i was 7 years old.. I am 18 now, and yesterday I  was picking at it and shortly after scratched my vagina. Is it possible to transmit coldsores and get genital herpes? and how likely is it? Also what are the signs for genital herpes ?

Hello, I am not one of the herpes expert on this forum, but I do spend a lot of my time reading peoples concerns.  From what I told, it is very unlikely to transfer the virus from oral to genital if you already have the virus.  You state you had HSV-1 since 7 years of age and are now 18.  This gave you plenty of time to have the antibodies present in your system to reduce the risk of transmission.  Think of the anti bodies you created as a protective shield. The reason people will get HSV-1 on the genital area is because they have not yet been introduced to the virus, therefore they do not have the antibodies to defend it.  The risk you mention should be of no concern.  Let me add, that next time if you are inspecting your oral cold sore, make sure to wash your hands before and after.
