Oral herpes not getting better! Please Help!

Hi,
About a week ago I got a cold sore on my bottom lip for the first time in my life. However, I didn't take any actions until it started having a very nasty outbreak: blisters on my gum (some areas of my gum have turned purple!), pimples around the edge of my tongue (feels like canker-sores), fatigue, nausea, ...  So my doc gave me Acyclovir 200mg for 10 days, 5 times a day. I'm taking this med for about 3 days now but I see no difference. As a matter of fact, the one cold sore has been multiplied and it's getting worse and worse. What should I do?!!! Please Help!!!!
Thanks a lot

herpangina ( don't let the name fool you - it's not a herpes simplex infection ) and  coxsackie virus ( as well as other enteroviruses ) are common this time of the year and both of them are associated with symptoms like this.

Thanks a lot for your reply,

It was purely visual. He didn't do any sort of testing whatsoever.

To be frank, I kissed a girl ~10 days before all this happened and I just assumed that I got it from her. What kind of other non-herpes related cause can it be? :(

did they do any testing to know that this is oral herpes or was it a visual diagnosis only?

antivirals don't work all that quickly if this is a newly acquired oral herpes infection.  things won't be better in 3 days.  Also this time of the year you have to consider other non-herpes related causes too.
