Oral herpes type 2

Hey

About two years ago after I gave oral sex to a girl if I caught it this way ? I got tonsillitis a week later with ulcers in my mouth which lasted for two months before healed up. Then the ulcers came back every two months not as bad at the back of my throat then moving onto my tonsil .I couldn't get it swabbed as doctors for it was nothing . We'll now it's been nearly two years I've had two tests which have come back equivocal for type 2 herpes can this rule that out ?

Can you post the exact results of the blood test?

Do you have HSV1?

The odds of this being oral HSV2 seem terribly small:
> You have no idea if she had HSV2
> Infection of the mouth with HSV2 is very rare
> If infected orally, HSV2 rarely has recurring outbreaks, or one every few years for most people.

Depending on your blood test results, a Westernblot might be a good next step.

odds are this isn't hsv2 orally causing your symptoms.  you should be following up reguarly with an ENT specialist for your reoccurring throat symptoms. If they suspect herpes as a cause, a lesion culture would be what you need.  Hsv2 orally rarely reoccurs and it also is low odds that it would cause symptoms where you have them too.  You've had symptoms for 2 years now, time for new doctors if yours aren't figuring out what this is!!!

That is part of the issue here as well. Once you have one type of HSV then a subsequent infection with the other type is not a primary infection. This is for a host of reasons including the fact that a subsequent infection usually a much milder affair compared to a first infection with HSV. Antibodies and other immune aspects for HSV1 would address and take the edge of the symptoms for a HSV2 infection.

The reality is that for sexually active people, most ailments are going to be after a sexual event with most not linked in any way!

The most likely situation here is:
> you have an oral HSV1 infection from your youth and you do not have HSV2
> you have a condition of the mouth that is not related to the sexual episode you describe
> your mouth condition is not related to herpes.

Yeah I was hoping so to but it's weird how I got this stuff first time round with what I fort was a primary attack as it was the worst as I said as it started off as sore tonsils then flu then tingling over my whole body and then ulcers which were present for 2 months and I had a sore tongue with bleeding gums! Then every two months it came back next to my mouler at back of mouth !then moving onto tonsil . The first blood test I had was
Pos type 1 neg type 2 almost a year later
Then I went to different doctors
For 2nd test which came back equivocal for type 1 and 2
Following week I got another blood test which was
Pos type 1 , equivocal type 2 almost 2 years later

This changes things somewhat.

It must be assumed at least for now that you have an oral HSV1 infection and have probably had this since your youth.

I am not convinced that the recurring mouth ulcers are necessarily herpes at all, this wouldn't be a typical presentation. This is despite you having HSV1. If for some reason the ulcers are related to herpes then it will be HSV1 not HSV2 most probably. HSV2 is very weak in the oral area.

It is much more likely that you are negative for HSV2 with cross reaction from HSV1 and other proteins in the blood being the culprit.

I didn't get results she showed me on the computer it was a herpes simplex select it said positive for type 1 but equivocal for type 2 twice !! I blisters every 3 months which turn to ulcers that's why I fort it was genital herpes in the mouth for how aggressive it was the first time it came up as I was sick had flu and nodes under chin were swollen . Also when I had ulcers in my mouth not so long ago I kissed my at time gf on *** cheek and soon after she got flu symptoms and what looked like herpes spots on her *** ! Which I only did as doctors told me it was nothing and I assumed to !
