I have oral HSV-I and experience outbreaks about 2-3 times a years. My current partner also has oral HSV-I but has not experienced any cold sores since childhood. My question is, what is the risk of me transmitting my oral HSV-I to her through unprotected oral sex
during an outbreak but I'm worried that I could pass it on through asymptomatic shedding. I know that genital HSV-I is not as severe as genital HSV-II, but I don't want to put my partner at risk. I have had difficulty finding information online about how likely it is that i can spread HSV-I to a partner who already has it to a different place on their body. Is it likely? I am not on valtrex or any other medications and I know that while the use of a dental dam is the safest option, I would like to know the likely risks that my partner faces
just don't perform oral on your partner when you have active cold sores present ( and vice versa ). neither of you are likely to contract hsv1 genitally since you already have it orally.
no need for any medication to protect your partner either. you don't have 100% protection but it's pretty close.
