the igm test in theory would reflect a recent herpes infection. we don't recommend it's use though because typically the herpes igm tests aren't type specific for starters as well as they are frequently falsely positive so their benefit is small.

You are hsv1+ and hsv2+.  Why led you to get tested? do you have a partner and if so, have they b een tested yet?

I just wanted to do a std screening because i found out my ex was havin sex with multiple partners without my knowledge after we broke up.  I recently had a child three years ago...and was wondering why nothin showed up then...

My doctor told me i dont need meds, but i am not sure what to do...he just said i had been exposed..(whatever that means)..he didnt make a big deal out of it.

I wanted to have another child, so i guess that is equation is out..

There no such thing as just being exposed to herpes. You either have it or you don't. You are positive for both. Odds are your hsv1 is oral and your hsv2 is genital. www.ashastd.org has info in their herpes section on both that should help you.  Odds are that you weren't tested for herpes when you were pregnant either. You'd have to check your records to see if you were or not.

Yes you can still have children!

If you have a regular partner, you need to talk to them about this and get them tested. You can't make decisions together about what precautions to take until you know who has what. You can decide if you want to just use condoms or if you want to take suppressive therapy to lower your partner's risk or use both. it's totally up to the 2 of you.

keep asking questions as you have them :)
