Paranoid about Herpes Infection

Hi there,

Last night, I had a sexual encounter with a sex worker in China. I am now worried I might have contracted STD.

Here are the details of the encounter before I go onto my questions. Sorry if it's a bit explicit, but I want to support my questions with considerable details.

1) I have used a polyurethane 0.03 condom both during oral and vaginal intercourse.

2) I was lying face down on the bed and she basically licked all of my backside. She did NOT lick my ******* as I was trying to minimize my risks. She did however, touch my ******* with her finger.

3) We did missionary and doggy style. She also sucked my nipples. She licked my groin area as well as my scrotum.

4) I saw on one of her butt cheek there was a very very light red spot. It wasn't a bump, its just a very light spot and there was only one.

5) I kissed her butt cheek. It was only a lip kiss, NO tongue was involved and I did NOT kiss the red spot on her butt cheek.

6) I am quite certain I do not have any cuts or broken skin on where she licked me, though I may have a pimple or two on my back.

7) I did NOT kiss her mouth to mouth. But I did kiss her neck.

Ok, so here are my questions:

1) I know I am probably at no risk of HIV or other STD transmitted through contact of mucous membrane, but can you please reassure me of this?

2) Considering the very light red spot on her butt cheek, what are the chances that this is genital herpes or HPV?

3) I have read from other websites that genital herpes and HPV can be transmitted through normal skin to skin contact. IF she is a carrier of such STD, what are the chances of me getting infected by having vaginal intercourse with her?

4) Would the risk increase if I had doggy style?

5) Would the genital herpes or HPV be transmitted to me while she licked my back (which may have had an unpopped pimple), my groin and my scrotum? In other words, can I catch the STD through her mouth on my skin?

6) ASSUMING the sex worker was a carrier of genital herpes (or HPV) but it was not an outbreak for her during my sexual encounter (I am worried about the very light red spot on her butt cheek). I kissed her butt cheek, what would be the chances of me catching it?

7) My genital area is itching slightly today (the second day since encounter). Actually, I feel itchiness on parts of the body she has licked. The itch is not much, more like tingling sensation. I can stand it without scratching it. Also, I have a dry throat and mouth today. Is this because I am paranoid? Or could this be a symptom? Can symptoms develop as soon as within 24 hours?

8) Now I come to think of it, if the condom was not fully down the shaft of my penis (say my penis was 80% covered), what would be the risk of me contracting any STD because of this since there is a possibility that 20% of my penis was inside her vagina? Is this still protected sex then?

9) What other STD am I at risk at that I did not mention?

10) Are polyurethane condoms less effective than latex ones?

11) If I want to do a full STD test, where can I get one and how long should I wait before taking the test for the results to be accurate?

Thanks in advance for your response, I look forward to it.

skin to skin contact is a low risk in general - it's the heat and friction  of kissing for oral herpes transmission and sex that is the main way it's transmitted.

Thanks Grace,

Just one more thing, I am a bit confused about "skin to skin" contact. Google does not seem to provide much answer.

When talking about herpes or actually any STD transmission:
1. Would healthy skin (ie, no visible cuts) protect me from an infection even if I touched an infected area?

2. What if there was say an unpopped pimple on my face and someone with cold sore (but not active) kissed me on the cheek (with saliva of the infected person getting on the pimple)? Would I get HSV from this?

3. Or is skin to skin contact defined as contact of the mucous membrane with an infected area?

4. Some say the skin of the genital area is thinner than skin on other parts of the body such as your back and therefore more prone to catching STD via skin to skin contact. Is this true? Is it possible that there could be non-visible cuts or mild abrasions on genital area that the virus could enter into the body if it came in contact with infected skin?

Thanks again for your time on answering my questions.

this was protected sex and protected oral. it's very safe and the odds that you contracted anything from this are incredibly low.  really not even any reason for testing unless you just need the peace of mind.

you need to wait 1 week post encounter for gonorrhea, chlamydia and ngu test. 6 weeks for syphilis testing. 3 months for herpes , hepatitis and hiv testing.
