Hello,
I had the HSV type specific IgG run 95 days after a potential exposure. Result negative for both types 1 & 2
I had a confirmation HSV type specific IgG run at 10.5 months past exposure since I heard it can take 6 months for antibodies to form. Result negative on both types 1 & 2 - again.
I've never had any obvious symptoms. Entering a new relationship we decided to have testing done (this is now a year and 3 months past the potential exposure). I had the HSV 1 & 2 Immunoblot run and it came back-
Result: Equivicable
Reference Interval: Negative
Note: Herpes Simplex Virus type specific antibodies cannot be determined onthis specimen.
Can you please give me your opinion of what this 'Equivacable" result might mean? Thank you so much in advance!
Grace,
Thank you for your prompt reply. So what would the “equivocal” result mean? That they found some sort of HSV anti-bodies but could not differentiate them? Shouldn’t the result be ‘negative’ if the test found nothing? Not trying to beat the dead horse, I just want to be thorough and responsible not to expose my new potential partner to anything.
On a quick side note I would like to say you always provide knowledgeable and kind responses. You provide an invaluable service.
