Positive Culture - Negative HerpeSelect -Indeterminate WB

by green96, Apr 19, 2009 05:17PM
Back in 2006, I was diagnosed with HSV2 via a culture.

I was not infected with HSV2 prior to 2006. In order to determine if it was a new infection or existing infection a HerpeSelect Igg2 was drawn the results were negative. After three to four months another was drawn to confirm infection. Results came back negative again. Fast forward to 2008.

January of 2008, Western Blot was ordered, results HSV1 positive and HSV2 indeterminate. Another HerpeSelect IGG 2 also negative 20 months after positive culture. Fast forward 2009.

Another Western Blot taken this month, results once again indeterminate and HerpeSelect IGG negative.

I have been on Valtrex since primary outbreak, but no other sores to swab for additional culture testing.

What are the chances of both HerpeSelect Igg2 and Western Blot not confirming antibody production and why?

I realize a small percentage of people will not show positive on antibody testing, but after three years seems strange.
