Positive HSV-1, Low Positive HSV-2

If someone tests high for HSV-1 (5+ igg) and has a low positive (2.0 igg) for HSV-2, what is the likelihood that the HSV-2 is false positive or a recent infection?

Its a pretty good chance its a false positive.  You might want to retest with a test called the Immunoblot or get a Western Blot test.

You can read more about these at www.herpesdiagnosis.com.

I am in a similary situation, my HSV 1 was positive, and my HSV 2 was low positive at either 1.8 or 1.9.

Did you ever do comfirmatory testing with Western Blot (WB)?  What was your result?

I received a HSV tiger test for HSV 1 and 2. My results were negative for HSV 2 at igG level 0.8. My igG level for HSV 1 was 1.1 and I was told this was high positive. Is the negative result  cut off line for HSV -1 a IgG level of 1.0 or 1.1? I asked the DR. What test they ran and whether it was a herpeselect, and whether there was an ELISA ratio listed. He said the ratio was listed as IgG and didn't see ELISA listed on the report. He told me the lab they sent it to was Solace, but didn't know the name of the test. It was a blood test. I believe my dr. To be very competent , but the person who relayed the results was a clinical team member, that didn't seem to know the details of the test. I have asked to have my doctor call me back but she knows nothing of the false positive statistics on these tests, as I have read that many doctors are unaware. If you could help fill me in that would be great. I am 29, and have never had a fever blister, rash, genital lesions, or any other symptoms. I have read about false positives in the < 3.5 range for HSV -2 but haven't found much literature on false positives for HSV-1. Should I consider this test positive? I would really like to know for certain especially since it was a result right at the cut off mark. Is 1.1 negative or low positive. Some say greater than 1.1 is positive by my dr. Said my result for HSV 1 was high positive at 1.1 IgG. Should I get the western blot test? Please help, thanks for your valuable time and attention!
