Possible HSV-1?

I have been reading through a lot of information here as well as other sites regarding HSV-1 & 2. I had an Igm test done which I know is not the most accurate at 6 weeks from the last sexual encounter I had.  I was relieved it was negative but I also know that it's possible that it was not accurate due to it being an Igm and also it being to soon.  My symptoms started it seemed sometime in early to mid July w/ burning lips and tongue I was told I has stomatits and given a prescription for Chlorexidine.

It seems to help at 1st but it seems the lip burning and possible cold sores have returned. My lips are constantly dry and chapped, I was having what seemed to be enlarged lymph nodes in my neck as well as eyes burning and looking/feeling as if I couldn't open them all the way.

I have a couple of reddish looking bumps on my face. My face tends to either seems really dry and forehead has something that looks like heat rash. I have had a very difficult time sleeping when I feel a general malaise.   Headaches etc.  I have had a CBC  and other blood tests done which only showed low potassium. I am taking medications daily for Kidney Stones and was given Cipro after going to the Hospitals Urgent care for having blood in my urine.

The possible cold sores do not crust and only appear under my upper lips. I have had some minor burning in my chin area and chafing around my eyebrows.   I have read also about anxiety and stress over std's. as well as stressing.  So my question is 1 would it be wise to go back at about 10 weeks and try for an Igg, I don't have insurance and only have what is said to be charity from the county hospital where I got tested.

My feet feel a little prickly as well and have seen some small white looking bumps.  I'm trying to not stress but when you have no answers and can't get to see a primary care physician because its a county hospital and everyone goes there its rough. I had an Igg done 4 years ago which was negative.  Would you spend the $129 or more to get tested around the 10 week mark. Its been since July 5th since my last sexual encounter.  Any advice is helpful. Thanks

I've had all the basic tests done, liver, kidneys, cholesterol etc. All were fine cholesterol was a little high. 1 thing I have had consistent aside from the hsv symptoms is kidney stones. I don't know why I am still experiencing symptoms ie: nasal flare, fatigue in the arms. I would have thought these would have dissipated. I'm assuming some is stress and the other is just not sleeping enough.

Maybe look into the possibility of having two different issues, I.e. eczema or dry skin that is a symptom of hypithyroidism.  If you try to find a diagnosis that has ALL your symptoms, you may still be looking a year from now. Look into each symptom and try to correlate symptoms that overlap, which may reduce the numerous diagnostic tests and/ or possible diagnoses.  Best of luck.

Im just wondering if anyone else has experienced any of the burning skin issues?. It feels like rug burn. Also, any suggestions on getting a good night's rest?  I just seem to keep waking up around 8 am after going to sleep around 2. But then I get tired in the middle of the day..I know that sleep is important and trying to reduce stress.

No, there is no evidence that lysine has any impact on whether it prevents outbreaks. Your body gets ample lysine from a normal diet. Arginine has only been proven to have a weak link to outbreaks in some people, lysine does not help these people.

lol @ the last comment about being stress free ...not sure anyone is completely.  Needless to say I stress a lot. Unfortunately I just lost my job as well about a week and a half ago. Do you believe in the lysine vs arginine factors?..I think there may be something behind it as I know if I ate something spicy or salty seems like it irritates the symptoms.

Thank You for your time in a answering my questions & concerns.

No you cannot spread the virus to other body areas once you have an established infection.

There is only a risk of being infected from receiving oral sex if you do not have the HSV type that the partner has orally. It is debatable whether oral HSV2 is actually transmissible when no sores are present at all.

Redness and dry skin is not an indication of herpes. You have the virus in the oral region hence only cold sores will appear around your mouth, particularly the lips.

There is no need for any particular supplements. You have already gone much of your life with the virus obviously without much ill effect. Standard, healthy diet and exercise is all you need. Keeping stress to a minimum is good to keep cold sores away, the again, being stress free is a ticket to great health generally.

How is that being you can transfer it to other parts of your body by touching a soar & then touching another part of your body?.  Just as receiving oral sex from someone who's infected can result in either HSV 1 or hsv-2 pending on which type they have.  The reason Im asking is because it does appear to look like other areas on my body ie:the redness/dry skin ares on my elbows and knees.  I have several other questions as well.

As I know no one here is a Dr ...but would like some opinions on diet, supplements and prescriptions...what seems to work for some I know might not work for others but is there a general consensus on things that seem to work vs what doesn't?

As over 50% of people are infected with HSV1 before they are adults, it is difficult to say when you were infected but most likely for a long time.

I think you do have some condition that may have caused a run down of your immune system that may have meant some cold sores appeared. They would have been an outcome of this general malaise and not the cause. With an established infection, rest assured that anything outside your oral area will not be herpes related.

Right I know regarding the Drs hoping to get to see 1. Possibly they may have some answers when I go to my appointment on the 4th. What seems weird is that these symtoms seem to persist but with hsv-1 they only last between a week or 2 from my understanding.  Regardless I wont know until I retest.

There are not typically doctors on this forum.

A 12 week test gives you as close to conclusive as you can get.

Good question...I will try and either see if I can't get to a regular Dr or possibly see if I am able to get some help from 1 of the Dr's I see for Kidney Stones. I have to go to the outpatient clinic to the mineral metabolism clinic for kidney stones on the 4th so possibly I can ask about getting some other help.  Another option I guess is supplements as I am able to purchase those w/o a perscription. I still wont know anything until I test again but wondering if I should wait 12 weeks or do you think that 10 would be just as good?.  I'd really like a Dr to weigh in on this.

That is an interesting question, because what can you do if it is positive?

HSV1 for adults is spread through kissing, but 2/3 of the population has it. Hence if your last partner didn't have it, then your next one will.

The symptoms do seem to continuous to be herpes. Herpes will not in itself cause dry, chaffed lips, but will often emerge if the lips receive such trauma.
