Possible Herpes Symptom

Possible Herpes Symptom

Two weeks ago I had a sexual encounter. I've had no symptoms of herpes other than a left leg pain throughout the whole leg, although I've had no pain in the butt or lower back. The pain has lasted roughly 6 or 7 days. I've done a fair amount of research due to being freaked out and it seems the leg pain is common with herpes? Should I be worried about the pain being associated with herpes despite not having any outbreak? It seems if someone is having such a pronounced symptom such as the leg pain there would be an outbreak. Needless to say, I'm freaking out about it.

Helps to be more specific than just "sexual encounter".

Leg pain alone, and in the absence of sores/lesions, would almost certainly not be a symptom of herpes.

Have you ever been tested to know your herpes status?

I've never been tested, and the sex was mostly protected with possibly a minute of unprotected. So I should not worry as long as blisters do not form?

Is this a regular partner? If so, you both should be tested - just so you have a baseline status. But if not, yes it makes sense to know your own herpes status. Then going forward you'll know. And should you develop genital symptoms such as blisters, be seen for a swab/culture. Remember that a one-time encounter is very low (assuming your partner even had herpes).

Not a regular partner, one time deal. I keep reading that in one time encounters it is rare to get it, but there's always a chance...

it's really low risk. just leg pain and no lesions isn't likely to be herpes. follow up with your provider for your leg pain for better answers.

If you check regularly, would you notice lesions?

Went to the doctor today, he said that if the leg pain was from herpes, there wouldve been an outbreak within 2 to 3 days of the pain. I took an xray of my back and he said my xray showed muscle damage around the spine due to lifting a lot of weight( while working out) and running a lot. He said not to worry about herpes, that this case didn't seem to be like that. Should I continue to worry or leave it at that?

Your doctor is right on - leg pain in the absence of classic symptoms is not at all indicative of herpes, just as grace stated. Leave it at that!

don't bother with herpes testing, go get a therapeutic massage for your muscle pain :)

haha. Thanks for the help petal and grace. I still have some anxiety about all of it, so I'll probably get tested in a few months. Despite that, the muscle relaxers the doctor gave me are helping a lot. With everyone I've heard that has leg pain from herpes, medicine doesn't seem to help.

muscle relaxers make everything better....he he he

really no reason to suspect herpes. you have a diagnosed cause for your pain.

I was serious about the massage too. I get them regularly myself for pain issues and they really, really help a lot.
