Possible To Contract Herpes from Skin to Skin Contact?

Today I was given the shocking news that a person I've had some type of sexual contact with has herpes. The contact we had was not penetration and no fluids were exchanged. She has developed a cold sore but no kissing or oral sex was involved. I wish I could think of a less crude way to word this but...The main contact I had with her, that has me so worried was rubbing my penis, without a condom, in between her bare buttock, along with some contact from my fingers touching her vagina; though my fingers never penetrated her along with my mouth against breast. This all occurred no more than 3 days ago.

My main two questions are; how long would it take for any symptom's to develop and is it very probable that I could have contracted herpes from skin to skin contact alone. From the small bit of research I've done so far it seems skin to skin contact has a low rate of infection, but my genitals were in close but not direct contact near the anus.

Frankly, I've been worried sick over this. I'm feeling so nervous tonight it's causing me to be unable to sleep. My apologies if this description sounds to vulgar. I just wanted to give as much info as I possibly could in order to to get the best advice. Would really appreciate any answers to this question. The stress from finding this out has really hit me hard today.

Your risk of contracting HSV from this really isn't that great so relax. Symptoms would have shown up within about 6 days but in some it could take a little longer but 6 is a good time frame. I am sure you are worrying about nothing so go to sleep and don't worry about this!! If she has HSV1 orally and was not having an outbreak, chances are very very slim to none you will not contract anything..

If she only has cold sores - since you didn't kiss her and didn't have any contact with her mouth - then you were not at any risk at all.

Have you ever had a herpes blood test yourself to know your own herpes status?  Oral herpes is almost always hsv1 and most adults are hsv1+ whether they can recall a history of cold sores or not.

If you are worried about std's - you should be wearing a condom for contact like this to help reduce your risk of herpes and hpv.
