Possible herpes between buttocks

I am a 48yo man.  About 3 months ago I had receptive anal sex with another man I did not know very well, but he wore a condom.  About 12 hours later (yes, literally that fast) I noticed discomfort while sitting, a slight burning sensation near the anus.  The sensation has never really gone away since then, it is not painful just more annoying.  While I am seated the slight burning sensation is most noticeable and shifts around, from one buttocks to the other, to above my anus, and even back toward the tailbone.  But nothing on the anus itself.  I stand-up and the sensation typically goes away immediately.  I would best describe the sensation like having a permanent undies wedgie, wanting to pull some lodged fabric out from between my buttocks.  If I don't focus on it, even while seated, I usually don't notice anything since the sensation is so mild.  But it is always there.

No flu, fever, sores, lesions, pimples, ingrown hairs, scabs, scaling, bleeding, odors or any kind of drainage that I can tell from self examination.  There is some slight redness and shininess throughout my anal region which I would attribute to perspiration as I am a little overweight with rubbing buttocks so dampness there has always been typical.

I usually just leave the area alone, but at times I tried a variety of fungal creams over the last 3 months with no significant change.  In general symptoms go away for a few days (with or without creams) but then return.

Do you think this might be genital herpes after all?

My results came in today.  All 10 tests were negative, including HSV 1 and 2.

The most likely culprit is the hemorrhoid.  Even though I did not experience any pain or bleeding at the time, it could have been aggravated by that receptive anal sex event.

A couple friends told me the same thing so that is why I didn't panic, but its just so annoying at times all the shifting I need to do while sitting.  I will be getting testing next week for 10 different STDs, including HSV1 and HSV2.

Any guesses at what it might be?  Only other condition down there is I have a hemorrhoid, but no pain or bleeding associate with it and the anal sex session was not painful.

These symptoms do not appear to be related to herpes. I wouldn't be thinking in that direction.

However your HSV status will be independent of these symptoms and an IgG blood test for HSV1 and HSV2 will tell you your status.
