Possible hsv 2 breakout after negative igG test?

by shadedxdreams, Jul 03, 2009 03:21AM
Hello everyone, I have been dealing with this for quite some time now and would really appreciate a second opinion.. I have recently (may 20th) taken an Herpeselect igG and igM test from my local lab. I got the following results :
HsV 1 IgG < 0.90 negative
HsV 2 igG < 0.90 negative

HsV 1 igM < 0.9 negative
HsV 2 igM 0.9* (equivocal) Abnormal flag code H or something

Now the last possible partner that I would've considered high risk at all was 10 months prior to that test so wouldn't have igGs developed for hsv 2 by now if I got it then? Cause I got back together with my current gf and she's the only person who I have had sex with for a few months now. She's never had an outbreak that I've seen and claimed she was tested before but it didn't involve blood so idk what kind of test that'd be. Recently though I've developed a red rash on my penis under the foreskin. It looks more like small spots rather than blisters but you can see tiny pin tip size red dots there too though. They become itchy and irritate me but they constantly almost dissapear then just see, to come back. No blisters or fluid or anything. During the first time it happened I was going through a sickness which in my opinion resembled mono but I can't be sure. However the symptoms could also be linked to hsv 2 from what I've read cause they included lower back pain and a burning sensation in my left leg plus some itchiness in the groin area and tiny red (what looked like ingrown hait follicles around my testicles in the upper area but once again no more). This lasted 2 months though and during that time I had a stiff neck too which I cannot understand myself. After the 2 months I recovered and my penis looked great. But now those same little needle tip dots are back and so is the itching and burning leg except less intense. Would this be considered herpes? My girl still says she doesn't have anything and I know her very well and know she never slept with anyone else besides me and a prior bf before me a few years ago and 2 women in the past. If I tested negative on igG but equivocal on igM for hsv 2 does this mean she could've had hsv 2 and never given it to me before till now? I'm gonna retest in august to see if any igG changes are present but this little rash is seriously annoying me. I would appreciate any input on this as I really hope she never had anything.. thanks and god bless..

As to a "high risk" partner, about 90% of the folks who have GH don't even know they have it! Herpes doesn't mean having had lots of sexual partners or whatever it is that you mean by "high risk".

Anyway, you describing symptoms at this point is somewhat irrelevant. You had the one IgG, and it was negative. If you're still convinced it's herpes, get another IgG 3-4 months after your last sexual encounter. If you have symptoms, get a swab/culture done within 48 hours - not sure why you hadn't done this as well.

IgM is not a valid test for herpes - disregard it.

As to your gal - she may have it and not even know! For goodness sakes, have her get tested as well.

thank you for your feedback petal I appreciate it. I had never gotten a culture test cause prior to this I had never gotten any little bumps or anything which might have indicated herpes so I didn't even think about it.. but this time its more of a concern to me so I will get that done if those bumps aren't gone by the end of this 4th of july weekend.. since all the planned parenthood locations are closed till Monday I believe. Thanks again for your time. I'll keep everyone who might have read this informed on what happens. God bless
