where I get coldsore symptoms. I have HSV1 Orally but have not had any symptoms for over 8months. Last night my boyfriend started to feel sick. His body was aching all over, he was feeling nausea and felt like his stomach muscles were cramping. His sore patch
has been completely healed for a few days now. Is it possible he has contracted HSV1 gentially from me? He has told me in the past that he has never had a coldsore. So Im not sure if he would already have HSV1 anibodies to protect him.
Thankyou for your time
If he should get any obvious genital lesions he'll need to follow up on it within 48 hours of their appearance with a medical provider for proper testing and evaluation.
Thankyou for your prompt response. I would just like to know what tests can be done if he never gets any genital lesions or visible symptoms? And as I already have HSV1 orally what are my chances of contracting it genitally?
if he's never been tested for herpes before, no way to know what his status is. He can get a baseline herpes igg blood test now and then repeat it in a few months but even the best blood tests we have currently still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections so even that might not be the best answers for you both. Also a blood test only tells what he has, not where he has it. A hsv1+ result at any point without symptoms in either location doesn't answer if it's oral or genital.
You can contract hsv1 genitally but the risk is incredibly low. You should both avoid sex until his penis skin is healed again just to err on the side of caution.
Ok thankyou again. His sore patch actually had healed up before he started feeling sick so thats all better now. Are you able to tell me the chances of passing on HSV1 to him genitally when he did have skin irritation on his peins? I didnt think anything at the time as I didnt have any cold sore symptoms and hadnt experienced them for a long time. But when i noticed redness on my lip 2days later I feaked out immediately! So is there any info on the chances of transmission in this case?
Thankyou
Ok thats alright. But am I right in thinking the chances of transmission are increased when there is some sort of sore present? Even if I didnt have any cold sore symptoms at the time? I havent sed any of this to my boyf yet. We live away from each other so this all happened after I came home from a visit at his. I dont want to worry him if theres no need. Until he gets symptoms theres nothing a doctor can really do test wise is there? Except for a type specific blood test in a few months? Is that right?
Thankyou
I have a question to do with me being positive HSV1(which I assume is orally as I get the odd coldsore). The 1st time I had a blood test for HSV, I tested positive for type 1 and negative for type 2. That test was taken 5yrs ago. In the last 12months Ive been experiencing a burning, tingling feeling and slight redness just on my right buttocks cheek. Ive had blood tests for herpes twice since experiencing these symptoms and both times I was positive for HSV1 IgG & negative for HSV2 IgG and negative for both types IgM. Is it possible I could have HSV 1 both orally and genitally? And if I was having symptoms at the time of the tests wouldnt I have been positive for IgM? My doctor hasnt been able to do swabs as I have not had any sores. And he cant confirm my symptoms on my buttocks are herpes related because I keep testing positive only for HSV1 which we knew Ive already had......Do you have any answers for this?
I hope you can help...thankyou
It' s not likely that you have hsv1 genitally too. You need to continue following up with your provider and also a neurologist about this is your regular doctor can't figure out what is going on. Don't get stuck thinking std's as a cause either.
