Potential Infection

Hi,

About 8 weeks ago I had an unprotected one night stand. I pretty much ruled herpes off the list after 2 weeks passed and everything appeared to be normal. At about the 4 week mark I started to get a rash on my inner thigh- i shrugged this off to be jock itch as after 3-5 days of fungal cream is settled down. However, my scrotum still appeared to be fairly red. While it wasn't painful or anything for 2 weeks I shaved the area (dumb decision) in hope of getting a better look. It is now about 2 weeks after this and it still seems red at times now with itching and the occasional tingling sensation. There are no noticeable lesions or outbreaks (believe me I've looked pretty hard) and the most worrying thing is the occasional red splotch which I have just assumed to be a mild infection in the hair follicles. I am concerned about the glands in my groin being up but there isn't really any pain.

I've been to 2 doctors- first one said "you'd know if you had herpes" and the second one told me "it looks fine and herpes can only be transmitted when there is open sores or lesions". So basically, I have my doubts given what I've read.

Therefore, I have a few questions

Q1) Are these symptoms typical of herpes?

Q2) Is the timeframe - potentially 6 weeks of red scrotum worrisome?

Q3) From this one encounter could I be someone who has a very mild case?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Much thanks!

they have good type specific herpes igg blood tests in australia. you can seek one out.

once you know if you have hsv1, hsv2 or both, then you can make educated decisions with a partner to reduce their risk if they are negative for what you have :)

Also, how can I be sure I won't transmit to someone else?

Hey grace,

I've continued the treatment for fungal until now. seems to be gone. still getting issues though- starting to question if it's more anxiety...
As with the swollen lymph nodes.

Anyway, I havent had a blood test for herpes. I was told by my doctor 70% of people test positive...I doubt he was up to date from what I've read. If you are 'asymptomatic', what are the chances the blood test will correctly diagnose you (in Australia)? I've only had one risky encounter (just a young chap), what are my odds of having clntracted the virus?

Many thanks, you're sensational!

sounds like a fungal issues yet. you have to treat them for a full week after the rash goes away.

no more shaving until the skin is all healed too!

have you ever been tested for herpes before?
