Practicing very safe sex

I just found out that my boyfriend has herpes- I love him and he loves me and I am so grateful he told me and I know to use a condom and practice safe sex but I just wanted to know if someone could give me advice on how to bring it up with him so we can talk about it in the least awkward way possible (which I know may not be entirely possible) just not sure how to approach this one- I appreciate any suggestions! thanks!!

Does your bf have hsv1 or hsv2?  How does he treat his herpes?

Have you ever been tested for herpes to know your own status?

so how do you talk about this from this point on? Well just start out simple with - sweetie - I've been doing some reading on genital herpes and I'm waiting to get myself tested to see if we even have to worry about transmission but I had a few things I wanted to ask you if you don't mind - and go from there :)  The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a free resource I recommend you read too. You can even print it out at home and then start your conversation out with it - hey look at what I found online - I've read it and have a few more questions about your herpes in particular if you don't mind answering a few more questions for me :)
