Primary Herpes in the Ear?

This may sound silly, but after the good advice I got from a previous post, I'm relaying this question from a fellow friend of mine.

He wants to know if it's possible for a primary herpes infection to show up in the ear. I told him it's probably very unlikely, especially as he doesn't have any weird lesions anywhere at all. He says he has a mild sore throat, enlarged lymph nodes in his neck, and pain in one ear. His reasoning is that the girl he slept with kept tonguing his left ear, the same one with the pain. According to him, it's been 4 days since the encounter.

I also noticed he has a line of red raised bumps just below his left eye, whether that's relevant or not.

Your friend needs to go and be seen and find out what is going on.  It really sounds like he has something viral going on with his sore throat and enlarged lymph nodes which can put pressure on the ear or he could even have an ear infection.

it really isn't all herpes :)
