Probable Risk? HELP

My girlfriend has genital herpes and was diagnosed 4 years ago and apparenlty has not had an outbreak in 3 years and started taking anti viral medicine 4 mos ago when we started dating. I would like to know what the odds really are of me contracting genital herpes if I always wear a condom and am very careful to wash afterwards? What is the risk of me performing oral sex on her? I have type 1 and get a cold sore about 1x per year.

What type of genital herpes does she have?

There's no need to "wash" after sex. Unless you were raised Catholic, I guess.

If she has type 2, and takes antivirals, there is a 2% chance per year that you would get herpes from her.  If you use a condom, that drops it to about 1%.  (You actually have a better chance of getting her pregnant if she's on the pill.)

If she has type 1 genitally, then the chances are even lower, especially since you already have antibodies for that.  If she hasn't been typed, she should be.  She can ask her doc for a type specific IgG blood test and find out.
