Protecting my partner

I was diagnosed with Herpes 1 (genital area) a couple of years ago. I have been taking Valtrex daily and rarely have outbreaks. If I do have one its very mild. I might feel like i'm getting the flu and tired for a couple of days with a slight discomfort in the affected area. My new boyfriend and I have not had sex yet, but he does know about my stituated and asked about oral sex. It's something that he likes to do, but is it something that we can do. How likely is it that I would pass the virus to him even if I'm taking medication for it?

What other test are there other then the blood work and swab test? I broke out several times and went in right away to do the swap test about 4 times. I've never broke out with a cold sore on my mouth, but did break out below and seen my gyn right away.

Would Valtrex be harmful to me if taken and I didn't need it? What else could be happening to me then. I had fullblood work done at my last visit a couple of months ago and nothing else showed up. I haven't been with that partner for almost two years.

You didn' t have proper testing done at all :(  You can not assume that your hsv1 is genital from just a blood test.

At this point I recommend stopping the valtrex. If you get a return of genital symptoms, be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a full work up.  Odds are what is going on, isn't hsv1 genitally to be honest. How long after you had last had sex with the partner with herpes had you had your blood testing done?

your bf is going to need tested to see what his own status is too.

I had a Blood test that showed positive for HSV1. My doctor recommended that I get tested because I found out that my last boyfriend had Herpes and didn't tell me...That was after I had a felt ill and had my first outbreak. I went severl time to get swab tested since the doctor couldn't say for sure. I broke out quite often at the beggining, but I guess I get it a lot milder then most people.

My doctor recommended Valtrex.

My new boyfriend and I have not had sex yet. So I'm looking for as much information as I can get so I don't infect him. I'm not sure if he has been tested. It's a new relationship.
Thank you for responding. Any advice is appricated.
