Rash, Cold Sore, Allergic Reaction??

Rash, Cold Sore, Allergic Reaction??

Over the past year or so I have had some teeny, tiny bumps appear on my lips.  The first 2 times were after I switched toothpaste and I assumed it was an allergic reaction (benadryl reduced the bumps overnight).

I have recently been having hives after eating berries.  Recently, I ended up with hives about 2 hours after eating then the next day I had the teeny tiny bumps on my lip again.  They felt like sandpaper when I would run my tongue over them and they were not really noticable (my husband thought I was nuts because he couldn't even tell they were there).

I have never had cold sores (from what I can tell) and am wondering if this could be a possibility based on the teeny tiny bumps on my upper lip line.  They did seem to be reduced with Benadry and after 2-3 days are not visible anymore.  My lips have been chapped for 2-3 days since the hives as well.

Looking for input as I am now paranoid!  I contacted my doctor, but the bumps are essentially gone at this point.  I have an appointment with an allergy specialist who I will speak with about this too,but wanted to get some opinions.

These don't sound like like oral herpes. That doesn't mean that you don't have hsv1 orally, it just means that these symptoms do not sound like they are due to herpes.

Hopefully you get some better answers from the allergist - having reactions to food and products really gets old quick :(

Thanks Grace.  I have super chapped lips now and a few more hives this morning, so I am guessing this particular issue is related to an allergic reaction, but who knows!  I have looked into getting a blood test for HSV1 and HSV2.  I don't believe I've ever been exposed, but who knows.
