gland for a few days, no blisters) so he wasn't aware he had it. My symptoms started a week or 2 after this and I have been tested and it has been confirmed to be hsv1. Since then I have lost count of how many breakouts I've had, it has to be about 15-20 now. It's only ever gone for a week at the most then it's straight back for a week or 2. My doctor started me on 200mg of aciclovir twice a day about 2 weeks ago but it still isn't suppressing it. In fact it seems to be constantly there now itching
, tingling and shoots of pain. There is not always a blister, sometimes just sore/swollen.I have been tested several times for everything else whilst trying to diagnose this. I have read that it is normal for people to get just a few breakouts a year, why is it so bad for me? And what can I do to stop it? It's really affecting my life
what testing did you have done originally that found hsv1? did you have a blood test done or did you have a lesion culture and typing of active symptoms?
you won't have that many recurrences in that short of time. odds are that you have more than herpes going on. see a dermatologist at this point for further evaluation.
acyclovir 200mg 2x/day isn't effective for suppressive therapy either. It has to be at least 400mg 2x/day.
It was a culture test that confirmed it. My doctor didn't seem to know much about it so I'm not suprised that you have said that 200mg twice a day isn't enough. I just don't know what else could be wrong.
