Recently diagnosed & confused

I recently had a culture test done on some lesions that were thought to be herpes. The culture came back positive for only HSV1.  Not confident enough in the results, I later took an IgG blood test and it  came out positive for HSV2(4.33) and negative for HSV1. I’m in shock and  would like to know if I should have another test done just to be certain. Also why didn’t the initial culture test detect the  HSV2?

you can have both hsv1 and hsv2 genitally. both reactivate at different times.

I'd err on the side of caution and get a herpes WB blood test done.

has your partner been tested to know their status?

But if I had both hsv1 & hsv2, why didnt they both show up in the blood test? I had asked my ex to get tested but he claims he's already been tested and was negative(I belive I got it from him now that  I think back about) My most recent partner tested negeative, but I could of just as easily given it to him  & it just hasnt showed up in his system. There is also on another gentelmen who might also be the source and Im waiting on his results.
Also I requested a WB blood test but was told they only use that test for aids and hiv. Is there some where else in can get it done?

even the best blood tests we have, still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections so they aren't quite as helpful for diagnosing hsv1 as they are hsv2.

it could also be that your culture was mistyped too.  you can call your provider to ask them to call the lab to see if they still have the specimen to type it again.

the wb is a type of blood test. it is done for very many different types of infections. the herpes Wb is only done at the U of washington in the US.
