Red Area, more of a rash? Not sure.

Red Area, more of a rash? Not sure.

I last had unprotected sex with my partner just about a month ago and last night developed a red area on the skin between my vaginal and anal area. It is not in the center however, but rather on both sides. It is almost symmetrical. I do not see any specific red (or white) bumps... The whole area is red and tender, though one side is not anymore. It only hurts to the touch.

I assumed it was caused either by wiping too much, or the friction of my underwear/pants rubbing the area. I also considered that perhaps the area was simply irritated by fecal matter after wiping. My skin is very sensitive in general. I am also on antibiotics (for acne), so I am not sure if this could be related to a yeast infection. No itching however.

I have asked my partner and he assures me he has never had a (known) Herpes outbreak.

I am under the impression that if this was herpes, only one side would be affected - not both. Is this normally the case?

Also, as of now (almost 24 hours) this is the only symptom - not bumps or blisters, fever or tingling. If blisters were to appear at this point, by when would I expect to see them?

Does this sound like anything else anyone may have experienced?

With no blisters, there is nothing for the doctor to culture.

I have applied A&D and Vaseline to the affected area and am assuming if the redness is gone in a day or two, this is probably not Herpes.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

It's not herpes. Herpes doesn't show up after a month after sex. 2 to 20 days tops. The initial outbreak CAN occur on both sides of the midline but the recurrent usually is on one side or the other. Stop wiping with sandpaper and try some softer types. :)
