Red Spot on my toe

by ohno23, Nov 03, 2008 07:39PM
I was tested positive for HPV about a year ago and just found out about three weeks ago I have HSV-2.  I started taking Acyclovir 3 times a day for about ten days or so.  It is my first outbreak and really bad.  I have recently noticed a red spot about one cm in diameter on the dorsal side of my right, big toe below the nail and just above the joint.  It does not hurt and is not elevated but rather looks like a dark/bright birth mark.  It appeared a few days after I finished taking the medication.  I also have been having alot of skin pain/soreness/tenderness in my legs - especially in the back of my right thigh and medial side of my lower leg.  It feels like dry skin or razor burn but I have been using lotion and tried avoiding shaving.  I have had these sensations for a few weeks now.  Is the spot and skin soreness related to HSV-2 and/or the medication or should I be worried about something else?

I don't think the syptoms (symptoms) you describe are due to herpes.  Sometimes, leg/lower back pain is a symptom people experience during an outbreak, but the "dry skin" and "razor burn" feeling sounds like something unrelated.  Also, the spot on your toe probably has nothing to do with HSV-2.  While it is techincally possible to have a herpes infection in other sites on your body, it's not common and you would have had to have had a cut or open wound on your foot for the virus to enter.  If your symptoms persist, see a doctor to see what is going on and rule out any side effects from the acyclovir.
Best,
Em
