Risk of herpes One time encounter protected Oral sex

Just under 4 weeks ago, I received a fellatio from a massage parlor worker with a condom. I don't believe there was any skin to skin, but she could have put it on with her mouth. She did not have any symptoms that I could see around her mouth. I shaved to the skin all around my genitals the day prior. THe whole thing lasted less than a minute. The following weekend, I went to visit family and had forgotten any changes of clothes so I wore the same underwear for 4 days straight and had ran a few miles in them on friday before I left. By that Sunday, there was definitely some heat coming from my genitals, so I put some after shave lotion on there, which seemed to make it worse. I put Cortizone cream on there and have been feeling better since. I was also tested for all STDs (including HSV1 & 2) which came back negative and was diagnosed with folliculitis and given Bactroban. Which I also had loss of appetite and nervousness, hard time sleeping at night. That was two weeks ago and now I think my nerves are getting to me as I have a fiance and I don't know if the things I feel are actually something or in my head. I did have a random muscle spasm like feeling that would occur in the tip of my penis, but no discharge and would random feel discomfort, but would not itch in the tip. It did not burn when I urinated. That feeling has since gone away so I am thinking it was just my anxiety. The only thing that has come up other than the rash (Which hasn't returned) is two bumps on my inner thigh (which don't hurt, but had hairs in them, so I'm thinking they are just ingrown hairs but I am wondering how since I shaved four weeks ago. My biggest wonder and fear is what are the chances of me getting herpes from this one time very brief and protected encounter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Yea I think sbxiety and guilt is what fuels this stress, same thing happens to many of us. But you can really stop woryijg about this. As for hsv2 thats even lower risk for hsv2. Because hsv2 rarely is oral and only sheds 1% of the year if sheds at all. So if the sex worker had hsv2 there is 5% chance ut us oral and is sheds 1% of the year your rusk of catching hsv2 from a one time pritected oral is luterally 1 in millions.

Thanks! Of course, I went one a 5 mile run yesterday and now have redness in three tiny spots right at the opening of the penis. It doesn't sting to pee or sting at all but I certain feel it. I guess I learned my lesson not to run in boxers!! Just another thing for my anxiety to use against me.

Just an update. I am finally starting to put this behind me. Being military, I can constantly talk to someone without digging deep into my pockets. Great right? ANyways, I was actually ableto see my IgG tests that were done and they were less than 0.91 for both HSV1 and HSV2. I am certainly taking this as a learning lesson from here on out. Thank you for all of your support!! I may not even bother with a week 8 and week 12 test!!!

Oh wow. You paid to talk to someone? I am sure that if I found out about that place sooner, I would have done the same. I will be working to let this go and will post the results from my upcoming tests when I have them so that anyone else in this same situation can put their mind at ease.

II have been reading for months thisbforum and the expert one an ASHA which is quite useful. and I barely know anyhting hsv is a complex virus. Believe ir or not 10-15 says after my exposure aI had the exacy tingling pain at the tip of my penis. My urologist and therapist also told me it is genital focesed anxiety and happens whenbyou focus on feeling pain on a bidy part. You basically increase the sensation you always feel. Note that penis tip is easily irritated and that stinging pain is a typical irritation by trauma(perhaps when examining, rough sex ...) These are not herpes related and you dont have herpes I rhink it is time for to let this go and trust the tests.Best wishes

Thanks again for all of your help! I know that nobody is an MD around here, but I find it crazy that you were able to study all of these things related to herpes when you yourself went through this not too long ago. It's fairly relieving to know that only 5% of people with HSV2 have it orally and that the rate they shed is less than 1% a year. That's some astronomical odds! Did that not drive you crazy while you were dealing with this very same thing? I just returned from the therapist and he said that he thinks the problem with the tip of my penis (which isn't even itching, burning, or irritation. I just notice it and focus on it) seems to be psychosomatic. Especially since I have gained a lot of pressure in my temples from time to time with ear pain and sometimes back of the neck pain. Week 8 and week 12 couldn't come fast enough!!

Well that, and if I actually have it, it will ruin the current life that I have.

Great thats what most people shoudlrealize and do. Your problem is more anxiety related herpes is just a tool for it. And being the incurable stigmatized but actually hamrless and inconvenient std it is, people gets scared and it ok to panic, just dont let it take over your life! I think you are on the right track, good luck!

I keep telling myself over and over, and actually find it amusing, That theres a higher chance of hitting the lottery or getting struck by lightening than contracting herpes on this very brief encounter. IF there even was the slightest bit of skin to skin contact. Which I doubt because Im sure she wants to protect herself like I want to be protected. Each day seems easier. Being that I am at the end of week 4 (past the 2-20 day window) I am starting to feel better and better. Except last night when I couldn't sleep AT ALL. I have an appt in a few hours to see a therapist. I am sure IF there ever was an outbreak, it certainly wouldn't just pop up with a sore. There would be a few other things foreshadowing the sores to come.

I had a test on 10 weeks and 15 weeks. Yes especially for you chance of getting a false positive is higher than actual infection so dont early test which can cause unneeded confusion, althiugh no need you can test at 8 weeks and 12 weeks that would be conclusive.

worryman, I'm just wondering. At what intervals were you tested at? I'm afraid of going too soon and getting a false positive. I'm not sure how likely that even is or how it works.

That's what I saw. It was like 0.01% of days. Which I have no idea what that means so of course it confused me. Not to mention that fact that it was 28 days ago, I am sure that I would have SOMETHING by now. I am actually going to see someone today about my anxiety and other things.

Also, I have a fiancé which is probably the main drive of my anxiety.

Neither of us have HSV1. I do not receive blowjobs from my Girlfriend. That is essentially what drove me to make the stupid decision that I did. Im not at all worried about receiving HSV1 from this. Im concerned that I contracted HSV2 genitally from the blowjob.

Essentially zero risk.

However what is the issue? Your next girlfriend is more likely than not to have HSV1. Are you going to cease receiving blowjobs?

There is nothing about your life that needs to change based on the risks of obtaining HSV1 or subsequently receiving it.

I really can't help but freak out.. Is there anyone else that might have something to add that may calm me down? I know he said zero risk, but I can't help but think that there has to be SOME risk...

That's a funny comparison to put it. That I have a better chance at getting hit by lightning than catching herpes from this exposure. I guess its the thought of my whole life abruptly ending as I know it that worries me. I tested negative for HSV1 so I am not too worried about that. I appreciate all of your help. I certainly won't be this stupid in the future and will use this as a wake up call for my future. From what I gathered, IF I did contract the virus, it will show in a week 12 blood test regardless of whether or not I have symptoms. Is that right?

Stop searching the internet it will confuse as it did me. Okay first 80% maybe higher are actually symptomatic especially for the first infection but they can be mild and mistaken for other things like pimples rashes, other infections. People dont know not because they are asymptomatic but becuase they dont notice it. If someone inspects himself durin first 20 days they wont miss the infection however some people are truly asymptomatic but when it is symptomatic it is more than just some burning and irritation. The tes time is because the test looks for antibodies (IgG) that is produced to fight the virus and it takes at least several weaks for body to produce measurable antibodies. 12-16 is enough time.
You can get a baseline test to know your hsv1 past, remember 60% of people test positive by the time they are adults and this means yiur jnfection and retest at 12 weeks. This isnt necessary in your situation but if it is whats going to relax you.. You didnt get herpes from this encounter no way you can, as far as probabilities go you should be more worried about getting hit by a lightning. Do. Yoursef a favor and drop this unnecessary stress, as someone who can relate it is a waste of time and energy and you dont want to add regrets to your regrets. Best wishes :)!

I appreciate the quick response. I know I should stay off of google, but I just get confused with everything. Like when they say 80% of people who pass it don't even know they have it. If it is so asymptomatic, why are the first 2-20 days so vital? Not to mention, if it does not come up in a blood test unless it is active, why do they say a week 12 test will be the all telling test whether you have contracted it or not? I'm trying to relax but with all of these contradicting facts, its kind of hard

Those feelings are anxiety. I had the exact same symptoms you genital symptoms was obviously because of running with clothes, You are at zero risk for everything. One time protected oral exposure isnt even worth testing, probability of your results being false positive is much higher than you being actually positive (for this situation and this particular exposure.  Dont wasteb your money and time getting a blood test. I have many bump inside my thigh if they have hairs in them they are ingrown hair bumps. Please relax, I can relate to you but if you ket this anxiety change your life much bigger problems and regrets will arise in the future

The STD tests were done 7-9 days after the encounter.
