Risky Encounter

by Sanmarcos, Feb 10, 2008 12:39AM
I am a 38 year old male. I came down with the flu two days after a casual sexual encounter. Two-to-three days into my flu symptoms I noticed that my left nostril was irritated and I felt an intense burning sensation around the rim. I assumed that it might be a pimple coming on, but one never came. After 2 more days the reddness subsided as did my flu symptoms. After looking up possible causes for my skin irritation during the flu I found a correlation to herpes symptoms and my situation.

It's been seven days now since my encounter. I wore a condom during intercourse, but had unprotected oral sex. I also suspect that my condom may have broken/leaked during intercourse, but I did not verify.

Since it is flu season I am not sure what to think. I had not been sick in years, but this time I was down for a few days. I felt tired, sore throat and ached all over. I did have congestion in my chest and a bad cough to go with it - I'm not sure if this clears me since the descriptions for the "flu-like" symptoms related to herpes aren't very detailed on the internet. I am sure that I did not get a high fever if I had a fever at all.

I did notice that during my flu my back broke out with a dozen or so small pin sized pimples, but I never felt any pain and pimples on my back is common. They were each about 4-8 inches apart from sholder to shoulder, which is the worse outbreak that I have experienced. There were no clusters. Initially, I just assumed that it was my body reacting to my flu, but reading up on herpes has me spooked.

After reading more about herpes, I am noticing an ache on my left inner thigh. My genitals aren't in any real pain, but I do feel a soreness, but this maybe due to my constantly checking for blisters swollen lymph nodes. I have not seen any blisters or signs of swelling around my genitals to-date.

And to top it all all off, I am occassionally feeling tingling and numbness left of my lower lip. No redness or swelling, though. Noticed that all of these symptoms are mostly on my left side.

Is this indicatitive of an intitial herpes virus infection or am I just over reacting to the abundant info about herpes and flu-like symptoms on the internet? Should I go have these symptoms checked out regardless of whether it's herpes or not? My flu have cleared up, but I still feel like I am experiencing what my be herpes symptoms.
