SERUM IGG/IGM TEST FOR HERPES POSITIVE????

I recently took an igg/igm test. I had a borderline result for igm and a HIGH positive result for igg. I had never had a cold sore anywhere on my body before. I never had an outbreak. The doctor said I  either have hsv1 or hsv2 for the test cant differentiate between the two. Is this test a false positive? Should I be worried? Is it possible for me to have neither or BOTH? Please help!

Dear Grace,

I recently got Herpes Simplex Virus 1+2 Antibody Panel Igg&Igm, Serum test and it does not specify type specific test. The result is 2.52 on both hsv1&2 as there was no individual result rather a combined test. You think that this may be a false positive and a retesting is required? To be honest I never had a symptom, no outbreak, just out of OCD got my test done. I am very sure I am not infected with HSV 2 or 1. Please write to me soon so can discuss further. I await your reply.

My result clearly mentioned hsv1&2 = 2.52
there was no different test result for hsv 1
hsv 2.
Is it possible I dont have none... I am concerned.

Regards Adi

I'm helping you on the STD forum as well.  You should keep your questions here, ok?  No need for both forums.

im going to get a typespecific ONLY igg test for hsv2. so when that comes back negative. can i assume that this non specific test that came back positive is indicating that i have HSV1?

hi grace thanks for your help. ive been researchin on this site and came across this person with basically the same situation as me. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/non-HSV1--non-HSV2--but-HSV-1-2-IgG/show/748445

positive on igg and negative on igm from the non specific hsv test.

All the testing you've had done so far has been a total waste of time an dmoney unfortunately :(  Most adults will test + on the combined igg blood tests due to hsv1 orally whether they can recall obvious cold sores or not.  If you are interested in knowing your herpes status then a type specific herpes igg blood test is the only way to know when you don't have symptoms that can be cultured and typed.

no. unfortunately i am not. so since it was a non specific type test abd the hsv results came in positive for igg and borderline for igm. can i disregard this test altogether? never had a cold sore breakout.etc. i may shell out 200 to get an accurate result from america. what do u suggest.

If this was a non-type specific herpes test then it  was also a waste of your time and money.

are you in the US?

my igg results were herpes simplex virus 10.0 hes making me pay over $200.00 to get a type specific test. i never had any sort of cold sore of break out so im confused. the range is negative .9 borderline is .9-1.1 and positive is 1.1 and so on. but my results came out 10.0 as igG. what does that mean. please help!

I can best help you if you post your igg results here. no need to post the igm - you can totally disregard those results.
