STRESSED AND CONFUSED

by mgmalman42, May 22, 2009 07:13PM
I last had unprotected sex with someone about 9 weeks ago.  I got really worried about it and went in for a full std checkup.  For the first time in my life I had a Herpes test.  Everything but the Herpes test was neg.  3 weeks ago at about the 6 week mark for possible exposure, I had the first rounds of test.. The LGG was pos for HSV 1 and Neg for HSV 2.  At the same time he did the Lgm test and it was 1.11 which the doctor was not concerned about at all... He said you are "neg" for HSV 2 but to be sure we will retest in 3 weeks... so I did.  Now at the 9 week mark I repeat both test and again it is neg for HSV 2 and pos for HSV1.  This time the Lgm test was 1.09 going down.  He basically said just let me know if you have any "flare ups"...  Now my questions to the experts here is, at about 9 weeks with 2 neg HSV2 Lgg test.... am I safe to say I don't have HSV2 ???  please someone clear this up for me... the Doctor was very causal about it and only did the second set of test for "peace of mind"...

An IgM blood test is worthless for diagnosing herpes - disregard it.

You are positive for HSV-1, along with about 70% of the adult population. If you've had cold sores ever, that would be why.

Did you even have any symptoms? Does the person you had unprotected sex with have herpes? A one time encounter (assuming she even HAD herpes) is incredibly low for getting herpes.

Thanks for your response... I have not seen any blisters on my genitals at all.  I did have some lower back pain and low abdominal pain but I don't know if that is in regards to stress or HSV.  I had what may be called an oral "flare up" ?? I don't know.  I had a spot on the tip of my tounge that sort of looks like some HSV pictures I have seen on the web.  I have never had a cold sore that I remember.  But with more education on HSV I do think I had a primary outbreak of HSV 1 a couple years ago.. Mouth blisters inside the mouth, flu like symptoms.. but never a cold sore.  The person I had sex with swears they don't have herpes... but who really knows?, Yes it was a one time thing.  I am freaking out about the Lgm that is showing a current infection whereas I don't really seem to have much of any symptoms... I had a few itchy spots come up in the anal area but quickly faded away.. The person did perform oral on me genitally and anally...  So now, I am just wigged out... checking myself constantly.  Can't sleep with worry.  I am wondering if this is HSV2 that is not showing up on the LGG test because its only been about 9 weeks...???  THANKS FOR YOU THOUGHTS AND ADVISE
