I basically have moved on from my previous relationship in which I have contracted genital Herpes HSV2, and now seeing someone else who does not have HSV2 we have not started any intercourse
yet and quite frankly I'm not ready for that yet I have a few concerns. I do plan to tell her I have genital herpes that is not the problem but when it comes to sex
?, can I receive oral ?when there are no lesions present or any symptoms I know even when there isn't there is a slight chance of viral shedding. And lastly but not least after a breakout how long should you wait before even attempting to have protected sex
Thank you for your reply, I am no longer on supressive therapy, I need to get a new doctor as I turned 21 recently and I was still seeing my pediatrician, my prescription was only for a month and a half.
everything stillworried told you was correct except for the protection that daily suppressive therapy gives a partner. If you two did nothing but avoid sex during obvious genital symptoms in yourself, her risk is 8-10%/year of contracting hsv2 from you. you taking daily suppressive therapy and using condoms consistently as well as avoiding sex when you have symptoms reduces her risk to 2-3%/year. very significant reduction in transmission!
Thank you grace, I would like to start supressive treatment again, but like I mentioned before I don't currently have a doctor looking for one I am comfortable with if that makes sense, is there a way I can get a prescription from a clinic or a way to get the meds?
look into a planned parenthood clinic near you for follow up on this with if you aren't comfortable having your regular provider handle it for you. You can pay for your PP appointment with cash and still get your prescription for suppressive therapy. if you don't want to run your acyclovir through your insurance it's less than $20/month for suppressive therapy most places.
I will do, I have no problem letting my primary care write the prescription or help me deal with it but I don't currently have a primary care provider. And as far as insurance it was only $7 for it when I was on acyclovir for a month and a half is it bad having it on insurance or something?
