Self-transmitted oral-to-genital herpes?

by badgerbadger, Aug 31, 2009 11:34PM
I have had sexual contact (mutual oral) with only one person (no signs of herpes), but I get canker sores in my mouth fairly regularly. I had a canker sore in my mouth at the time of the sexual contact, and we made out (open-mouth kissing) immediately beforehand. A few days after oral sex with my partner, I developed one small, very painful blister which ruptured and became a sore. It was almost exactly the same as the ones I get in my mouth. It has recurred twice since then in the exact same spot, but less severe after the first time. Is it likely that my oral sores transferred infection to my genital area via his saliva? I have not had any genital-to-genital contact before.

Canker sores are not contagious. they are not oral herpes.

At this point the best thing to do is to go and be seen the next time this reoccurs. You need to be seen on the day it shows up or the next for best chances of getting an accurate diagnosis and culture for herpes.
