Shared Lip Balm and Scared

I really appreciate these forums being available to us to keep us well informed.

I went out two nights ago and mistakenly shared someone else's lip balm, and now I'm scared whether I may have contracted a cold sore or oral herpes.

I didn't check if the other person had visible sores, and the lip balm that I used is the one where the lip balm applicator makes the balm come out of a little plastic hole, and you smear the plastic all around your lips, which I did.

It was also a cold night so my lips are a bit dry at the moment, although I do notice some redness on my lower lip almost in the shape of a pimple but just red. It doesn't itch or anything, so not sure if I'm just panicking for no reason.

I've been using my own lip balm as well for the last two days to try and re hydrate my lips as well.

Should I be concerned at all?

Hi,Cold sores are herpes. Lip balm is one product than can spread oral hsv. This is due to sharing and the fact tou rub the lip balm into the lip. That being said the odds you actually did contract hsv from this is slim to none. The idds are so low you really don't need to worry at all.
