She called and Said she had it. She Gave me her results in writing. Im waiting on my resuts????

Hi,

I recieved a call from a recent partner who got tested 02 Feb 24, 2011 .  She said her doctor said she had been incontact with it with in the past 3-6 months.  I got tested on 3/04 and Im still waiting for results.  The implication is that I gave it to her due her test results but she is the only on I have slept with unprotected since my last "Negative" tests. In the meantime she gave me her results in writing to share with my doctor and they read:

HSV 1 IGG HERPSELECT AB  *  in range= left blank  *  Out Range =        2.80  H  *  Ref. Range= 0.00 - 0.89 Index
HSV 2 IGG HERPSELECT AB  *  in range= left blank  *  Out of Range=  > 5.00  H  *  Ref Range=  0.00-0.89 Index
HSV Igm AB SCREED               *  in range= left blank   * Out or Range= Detected A * Reference Range: Not Detected
HSV Igm AB Titer                         * in range+ left blank   * Out of Range=      1.20  H  *  <1:10

I dont know what any of this means? She is giving me no elaboration from her doctor and I am going crazy waiting for my tests.  Can anyone help elaborate on the meaning of these results?

the hsv1 igg of 22 is just a numeric result. it doesn't mean it's "bad" or anything, it just means it's a well established infection.  Many of us contract hsv1 as children and if you've never been tested before to know your status, no way to know when you were infected. with a result that high, it's not likely you just recently contracted it.  no, you won't transmit hsv1 to your own genitals! It's incredibly common and not a reason to stop dating either.  http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm  has terrific info on oral herpes for more reading.

Your partner did not contract hsv2 from you since you are testing negative for it. Totally up to you if you want to repeat your hsv2 igg in a few months just to make sure you didn't contract it from her.

I just left the doctors office and his Assistants responce was I dont have HSV2 but I do have HSV1. I have to schedule an appointmemt with the Doc to get greater detail.  My test was detailed differently than hers. There was no IgM testing done and my IgG for HSV2 was 0.06 and for HSV1 it was 22 with a big "H" next to it; the average scale for both was 0.00 - 0.99.  So I guess thats pretty bad right?  On top of it I had unprotected sex with her little over a week ago and Is there still a chance I can HSV2 and the anti-bodies havent formed yet.

What I dont get is that I called my nurse and assistant doctor and they both said:
Theres no telling when I got it and HSV1 can be transmitted without kissing, oral or sex. Infact they stated I could of got it sharing a drink or meal. Nothing was prescribed to me.  He says that its possible I got it within the past 6 months - 2 years or she could have gave it to me or reactivated it.  She now claims no knowledge she ever had it but nothing that comes out her mouth adds up at this point.

Going forward, I am going to stop dating. Can I spread it to my own genitals by accident, ie: masterbating with suliva, etc?

Are all these Doctors this non-chalant about explaining this to patients?  Maybe if people were told they have this and to take it seriously verses "Its no big deal, 7 of 10 people have it in America", people wouldnt be so quick to just ignore it and go out there and effect others.  I dont know what my knewly found condition means or how I can ever look at a Women the same. They say 70%- 80% of the popultion has it.  Thanks Grace and Everyone ...

I'll be praying and looking for a cure for the rest of my life.

did you call to see if your own test results were back yet?  it's been 4 days, they might be back if you call.

your partners provider isn't up to date on herpes igm testing. Just because the igm is + doesn't mean that she recently contracted it.  some folks test + on igm for herpes for a lifetime which is why current cdc herpes testing guidelines don't recommend it's use in adults.

pretty much all you can do at this point is wait for your test results to come back. are you still involved with this partner?

A common thing to remember is that not every exspoure leads to transmission.  Some couples go years without getting HSV.

Thank You both.  I realize Im just driving myself NUTS trying to figure things out right now and I should just wait til I get the results back.  What bothers me most is that even as a guy I dont sleep around.  Prior to her I was with the same women for 5 years.  So for me to think she may have had it and known is driving me Bonkers.  We were supposed to be friends.  Shes more worried about me leaving than either of us having Herpes and I truely cared for this women. I dont know what to believe so...

I prayed about, feeling too ashamed to face the Father ...But ... The Lord is good ...Regardless if Im not.  So... I'll wait for my results and except whatever judgement my decisions have afforded me.

From what Ive been researching (correct me if Im wrong) There is ALSO a Very great chance that even if she does have it that it hasnt been transmited to me.  Hopefully I get my results today.  Ill write back.  Thanks again for sharing so much of your time...

Let's please remember we are volunteers to the forum.  As such we don't have any "required" to be here times.  Generally grace goes through the forums at night sometimes but is really depends on the day and her workload.  She works full time so sometimes its a little later for her.  If your post doesn't get a response in 24hrs feel free to reply to your thread with "bump"  generally I try to keep the posts with results near the top.

Grace is not the community "go to" person.  She is our Community Leader (fancy title for moderator) and so she is very active in discussions on the forum.  She routinely checks posts for comments and if she feels her input is needed does so.  She is though one of the most knowledgeable people here among our other Co-CL AJ and another regular Petal.

Let's talk some of the testing.  I won't discuss your test results because I am not trained to read them.  Let's be honest here in that you wouldn't want the guy who may have read a book or two to answer your question when you can have the person that read the books and deals with it daily.

2creep1 is correct the IGM is a worthless test with HSV.  You can search my journals for the IGM entry and read the post by Dr. HHH who is our STD expert.  (He is actually a Dr.) There is a range that is for false positives.  Mainly we see this with HSV-2 when someone has HSV-1 already.  But with that little knowledge out there let's do some more discussion on testing and why doctors think it shows a recent infection or not.  Really good post where Dr. Handsfield took time to type up that one.

The first thing is when was her last sexual encounter from that test?  The value you see means nothing as far as how much antibody is in the system.  It doesn't mean much outside of the trained professionals who interpert those test.  A postive HSV test can be as early as 3 weeks for some people.  So if she had herpes she won't know when she got it really unless she had a culture come back positive with HSV-2 typing and a negative antibody test run at the same time the culture was taken.  Even that is not 100%.

HSV-1 is not uncommon for us to get as a child.  Some of us will never recall a cold sore in our life but we got it as a child.  About 50% of the adult us population has it.

The funny thing about herpes is that many people who don't deal with daily don't really know a lot.  Which the nurse thought that like some things you can have an "exposure" to it.  Herpes you either got it or you don't.  Simple as that.  It's not like TB where you were exposed to it but you are negative for it via chest x-ray.

How do I "put please let Grace confirm.."

Thank You I just got off a 45 min phone conversation with a nurse that my Insurance company sponsors.  She said that her test results were so high the symptoms are chronic.  And another test that I didnt include here indated that the system also recommended medication that could but not nessarily has already recommended.  She said that if that level of testing was done, it does suggest that a previous incident occoured.. She said I could dial 211 for disease control and possibly find out if it was previously reported...

The results are best read by grace she can tell you what to do next.

There is NO way to tell how long she has had HSV.  None.  Her doctor is wrong if he said that was the case.

Wait for Grace to look at your results.
