Should I Retest?

by holdingontohope, Sep 27, 2009 06:33PM
Dear MD,

I know you must be tired of hearing the same questions over and over. Here is mine. I went to get a full check-up which did not include HSV1 or HSV2.  After having an encounter, with protection. I started to experience some pain in my right labia. It was a throbbing pain.  Other than that, I have had no symptoms of Herpes (tingling, itching, bumps, etc). Nothing on my mouth either. Never had a cold sore. My results came back positive HSV 1 >5 and HSV 2 3.67. I am devastated and have not stopped crying for days. Should i retest or are my levels above 3.5 make me definetly positive? Please help me.  Thanks

This is not the doctor's forum - you have to pay to post there.

No real reason to doubt the hsv1 result. Most adults have hsv1 orally but most aren't getting obvious cold sores to  know it.

What other testing did you have done for your pain in the labia?
