Should I ask for suppressive therapy?

Should I ask for suppressive therapy?

I was recently (this week) diagnosed through IgG blood tests as positive for HSV1 and HSV2.  I have been in a monogamus relationship for the past 8 months.  My partner tested negative for HSV1 and HSV2 in December 2009, but in light of my diagnosis was just retested on Tuesday (waiting on results).

Assuming that he is still negative, would you suggest that I request daily suppressive therapy from my PCP?  I have never had any noticeable HSV2 symptoms below the waist.  When my Dr. advised me of my blood test results he did not suggest suppressive therapy, but now that I have read through numerous posts and also the Westover Heights Herpes Handbook I think it might be a good idea.

Thoughts in favor or against suppressive therapy?

Thanks in advance!
Karin
