Should I be starting Valtrex suppressive thereapy

I haven't been actually diagnosed with HSV because all three test I have done came back negative (2 cultures, 1 blood) I have had 3 outbreaks in the last 6 months ( Initial outbreak-November, February, Now-May). I've been put on Valtrex everytime, but when my results have come back negative the OB.s don't seem to push the issue further, they just tell me next time you have an outbreak come back.

Honestly, I don't want to wait to have another outbreak and I personnally would like to take action.  Should I request being put on suppressive therapy or just keep waiting around till the outbreaks come back? I have a bf and it scares me to think that I could pass it on to him, even though we use condoms.

I can help you with your blood test results once you get them. Just post the results here - ie hsv1 igg 3.3 and hsv2 igg .23 or whatever they are.

Hi,

I had my first blood test back in Feb/Mar. but I just had another one done today.  My doctor said she wants to start me on suppressive therapy if my test results come back positive.

How long after this all started did you have the blood test done?  Do you know the results?

I wouldn't start suppressive therapy until you confirm that you have herpes which evidently you haven't done yet with anything other than a visual diagnosis of herpes?

I am currently on Valtrex for an outbreak and have been put on it 2 other times in the past 6 months.  My OB is for sure that it is HSV, but all the test I have done came back negative.  But from what I've been told that is totally a possibility because HSV can lie dormant and not show up on cultures and sometimes even blood test.  I keep having reccurrent outbreaks that are painful and hard to manage some days.  All the Dr.s keep telling me because I don't have a positive test is to wait to see if I have another outbreak but this one is the THIRD one in 6 Months.

Why would you go on Valtrex if you don't have HSV? You lost me.
